My son was all hot to build a teardrop with stainless until I ask him WHY??
he said it would look cool, then we discussed what it would really be....

1 Heavy, stainless is heavy stuff even in thinner gages it out weighs aluminum
by a bunch
2 a real bitch to keep looking "nice," try keeping a stainless appliance looking good and streak free,
3 expensive ,have you priced this stuff?? hard to get
4 much harder to work than aluminum, thinner gages are like razor blades to handle
5 from more than 10 feet away it looks like aluminum
6 it will last almost forever, that is long after the underlying teardrop has rotted to dust
well you get the ideal :( :(
The difficult we do now... the impossible takes a little longer

MetalExpress is where I bought my frame material. I have one about three blocks from work but the site will quote for the material you discribe.

Example: stainless 60" X120" 24 gage .024 Cost $226.01 and weighs #50.4

Thanks for the Link Jim. Will keep that one bookmarked. I am trying to find it in polished… Received a call from Metal Supermarkets today they currently don’t have a source for polished but are looking. :?

Gaston. On your list,
1 Yes it is heavy, but it is much more durable and scratch resistant.
2 Stainless is easier to keep looking good when exposed to salt air than Aluminum.
3 Yes it is pricey, but I will only skin it once and I haven’t cheaped out yet.
4 Yes it is sharp, but it doesn’t kink and ripple as easy as Al.
5 I think it looks much brighter year after year than Aluminum without polishing.
6 This trailer was built to outlast me...

Anyone else want to add to this? ;)

Except for 4
Those are the same reasons I used clear anodized alum. Not as shiney though.

Hi Steve, I might go with anodized if I can’t find the Stainless. How wide is your Tear? And can you post the info on the aluminum that you used? Thanks, Dan

My tear is 63" I used 60 wide aluminum with 2" trim on both sides.
I got my alum from http://www.saf.com/ shipping was free. I had to order .063 to get 60 wide. They will anosize it in different colors.
Salt spray is not a problem.

Polished stainless would look fantastic if you can find it. I looked and could only find brushed.

Also be awarw that there are different grades of stainless. Some are more rust resistant than others.

I have a friend with stainless on his top and every dent shows up, plus the people that get blinded by that mirror finish.

For comparison I bought my 5 x 10' AL for $75.00. Painted red on one side and clear coated on the mill finish side.
