Lower profile when towing, able to expand to an 86 inch height so I can stand up and stretch. Foam build with wood ( or steel ) to reinforce the stress points. I want to put solar panels on the roof, use wood to frame the windows, make the hatch from 1 inch foam/ wood. Back- foam with wood frame, each panel individually made and fitted. Use the interior to help hold the exterior and maintain rigidity. Need more drawings and description. Let's call it "Yeti"!

Why a new design? If a teardrop is not comfortable enough, you might want something larger. If you live east of the Missippi, rain happens, usually on the weekend while you are camping. If you are camping rustic, you might want to bring your own shower. And if mother nature calls in the middle of the night, you don't want to trek down to the outhouse or bathhouse. Some people are talking about camping longer than a weekend. Some of them want more than a TD. Some people want a tiny trailer to flee hurricanes etc. So with all that in mind, let's see what we as a group can come up with...

Here's a couple requirements I think we should include.

Ability to stand up inside it.
Ability to cook inside
Ability to go potty inside
Ability to take a shower inside
Ability to use a bolt together trailer
Ability to sit and eat inside
Simple construction
Lightweight
Can be towed with a medium sized car
Adequate storage

Yes, we are packing 10 pounds of RV type stuff into a 5 pound trailer, and there will have to be some tradeoffs as we proceed into the design. But hey, isn't that what makes it fun?

So what did I miss?

Mike...
I've thought the same thing. I'm going away from a traditional shape. Here's a sloppy sketch of what I'm thinking. Image

May I suggest a drop-floor section? Get the standing height you need by lowering a fabric walled segment of the floor when parked. Much lighter than building a pop-top or taller all the time trailer. Most trailers have at least 12” underfoot.

Hmm.... RVs have all sorts of slide-outs these days. With a perimeter frame design and axle-less design, there's no reason you couldn't have a slide-DOWN. Park in a nice flat spot, then drop the floor to the ground. Your design would keep any wiring and plumbing in the walls, not underneath.
Life is too short not to be happy.

I"m new here, and very interested in what is being discussed in this thread as I'm looking to build a "standy" myself. I've been reading lots of posts in every part of the forum and have taken a real interest in foamies. However, in this particular thread I don't see any of you experienced people suggesting that foam would be a consideration for this new Generic Standy. Is there a reason for that? All I've read tells me that its an amazing building component - light weight, becomes very strong when properly skinned, good insulation qualities, etc. I'm considering a 7'x12'x6'6" tall unit that would be pretty much a "standy" made of foam. I admit I don't know very much yet, but I've got months to learn as I browse through all the posts of the many different builds on this forum.

It's in the baby stages of the build but it's a big one. Should be cool standy when I'm finished. Just mounted the floor to the trailer today. Framing walls this weekend. I'm kinda winging it.Image

Consider foamie construction to keep weight reasonable and insulation values high.

How about a foamie version of the Wanderer 8 and 10? http://tnttt.com/Design_Library/The%20W ... d%2010.htm

My requirements didn’t include a shower or potty inside or cooking inside. They did include A/C, heating, a place to eat/use laptop and a king size bed for sleeping. Also, a good weatherproof roof fan and a 300 watt solar array. The goal is ability to camp year round and the ability to boondock comfortably.

I wanted the hatchback outdoor kitchen for my standy, similar to a teardrop, but I decided to also install a gas stove inside “just in case” we decide to heat up or cook something in inclement weather. We’ll use a potty tent and luggable loo for outdoor potty and the loo can be used inside at night for my wife’s convenience.
I'm a happy man, I love my life!

We hit most of the list with my design.
I'm a small footprint home designer but I have to say this was a challenge.
Ours should (hopefully) weigh in at about 1000lbs when complete.
I didn't like the idea of bringing the outdoors right in to the trailer when dirty after a day outdoors so I designed ours with a mudroom/bath combo, the shower is indoor/outdoor and the wet room/mudroom area where you enter is large enough for a collapsible tub.
Height is plenty tall for my 6' hubby and has a load of storage.
Our design slides into a utility trailer.

The sleeping area along the streetside wall looks extremely short. Does that bunk get made up bigger parallel to the forward crosswise bunk using a folding platform? Otherwise I can't imagine two people laying comfortably at 90 deg with their feet in the same spot.
