Lots of cool things you can do with foam ...how about a fabric covered Roswell ?? Standy ... :o

Yea I thought it was going to be a foamie standie too! But it's too bubblie. So until I come up with a design that is appealingie to the wifie, I guess I'll be doing Caddie!

Sounds like you should be looking at a Motorhome?

Now in production, the Whetzeldorf camper is a modern version of a compact camper made in 1957, by Martin Metzendorf in West Farmington Ohio. Metzendorfs were made from 1957 to about 1966, and all models known to exist were built with a 10 ft long body. We came across one that is only 8 ft long, but has all the amenities of its larger cousin. No known information is available and probably was a prototype or worlds Fair exhibit. It has become very popular at the vintage shows we have taken it to, and so we decided to build a similar model .

Dan is working on number 3 right now. You can see a few pics of that here: viewtopic.php?f=50&t=52800&p=968277#p968277

Re: stowed galley

Nitetimes wrote:I had a brainstorm this morning (maybe a brain fart??) but I thought I'd throw this out there anyway because some seem to want an outside galley (my choice too).
This is what I was thinking and I don't think it would be difficult to pull off.

Seems to me it would save you space because you would be using hard to get to space under the bed anyway. The upper cabinets could be shallow for can goods and other foodstuffs, at 10" you could get quite a bit in there without taking a lot of space from inside the trailer.
With cabinets in the galley pull out for all you larger stuff, pots and pans and such I think this would get you as much if not more room than is in a tradition tear galley.
Using this it opens up the whole front of the trailer for a bath and small counter top or bath and dinette eliminating the need for a set up take down deal.
Also the rear trailer wall becomes an awning when opened to pull out the galley, giving you 5-6' of cover which could have side curtains made for it if you wanted. It would be fairly easy to build as it's nearly all flat and probably could be flat depending on the lower trailer profile.
It needs a little refinement to work out the details.
It was a quick drawing but I think it could work very easily.
I hope this makes sense to someone besides me.
By the way, if ya just think it's a $hitty idea that's fine too, it was just an idea after all.

So it occurred to me that there is an alternative for galley placement and stowage. I think I have seen what I have in mind has been done before in a build on here. Galley slides out from the side of the trailer and is stowed under bed. The added benefit would be if you have an awning on the side of the trailer it could serve double duty. Am I off the mark here or does this have merit?

I know we all would like privacy when using the loo, but it doesn't seem practical to me. Building a whole room, no matter how small, is taking a huge chunk of real estate. All the drawings look like it will work, but I'm betting your knees will be out the door anyway. Stow the potty where it can be pulled into the aisle and draw a curtain.

Putting up solid walls to divide space between bunks and sink will visually cut the sightline. That shrinks the space alot.

And bunk beds really make the best sense to me. Turning them into an "L" means having one double duty as seating with storage under both.

I figured on using curtains around the loo and shower. That way the space gets a bit of dual use. the toilet/shower enclosure can be larger, but that space is reclaimed when they aren't in use.

We have designed an 8' x 12' tiny cabin to be built on a deck over trailer. It contains a shower and toilet, a couch which pulls out into a full size bed and a bunk. It also has an outdoor kitchen which can easily be moved inside if it rains, as the cabinets have double sided doors which can be reached from both inside and out. We looked at several small campers but with a son who is 6' 3", none of them could fit his size for sleeping. The interior height will be no shorter than 7ft. This camper/cabin will be used mainly for weekend use.

Ultimately we would like to build it on a 14' or 16' trailer but feel that if we can get the design to work in a 12' space it will be even easier to work on a larger scale. Just want to keep the weight down, so that it can be towed by our van.
