what about a rear door trailer along the lines of the escape hatch, just not a pop up?

G: the rear door 12' scotty. It has a nice vintage look to it.

One could even take a HF trailer and substitute some angle iron for the intermediate and back cross members behind the tongue connection. this would allow the builder to have a 2'-3' wide dropped floor that you can walk right in from the back door.

Mike...I like C, but you would pick up a lot more interior space if you modified the streamlined shape. I'm working on a bread loaf type thing with a trolley top...I think that type top is a real plus. Doug

I voted for C myself...the only mod I would make to it, would be to tighten the top, front elipse, so that it didn't make as much of a curve...lotta wasted volume there...

I didn't vote for c because the wheel well location would make it very difficult to acheive enough tounge weight for it to be pulled without tail whipping. Secondly the profile is too nuetral Which end is which?

Mark

P.S. what about a J.D. profile with the galley moved to the rear to take advantage of good ceiling height in the front.

P.P.S. I might be a little biased.

I voted for A. But I have come late to this post. Did I read that this is some kind of "Bug Out" trailer design for natural disasters, and stuff like that?

My problem with all of these designs is there seems to be a severe shortage of storage cabinets. in the cabin. Are you planning on all of the storage being below the seat cushions? After years of camping in a tent trailer with limited cabinets mostly under the dinette, I would not want to go back to that kind of storage.

I dunno why I liked A so much. It was just pleasing to my eye.

C would have been a little futher down the list. There's nothing I can put my finger on except I don't like where the door and wheels are. Doesn't have anything to do with the function of it, just what my eye likes. Of course, don't go by me, I'm too new at this to know what I like or what would be good for that matter.

I like the looks of 'A' but I'm biased towards the Benroy look. I voted for 'E' because I have two kids.

As for 'C', I'm with the others on the bean profile. If you made the front similar to 'A' you could put some cabinets above the bed on the front of the trailer. You could still store stuff under the bench seats, but the stuff you need easier access could be put in the overhead cabinets. Then you don't have to lift the seats every time you need it.
If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.

Mike wanted 100 votes on this right? Well, it looks like choice A is the most popular even if you add the remaining votes to the most popular 2nd choice, it still won't be enough.

So, what happens next Mike? We design the interior? Trailer frame? Valance choices?

Yep Steve,

You're right... The winner is A.

It appears, that even during a hurricane evacuation or other bugout event, people want something relatively close to a teardrop.

The next thing to sort out is the length and the profile. As it stands, it's 12 1/2 ft long. That's really not optimal. 12' would be better. so where can we remove 6"?

Mike...

You could lose 6 inches off the bed and it wouldn't bother me, but I'm a midget. I know you are trying to optimize for 4x8 construction, but it would be a shame to lose inches in any of the areas. So how about 13' long?
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

I'm with Toni, leave it as is or make it bigger. 6" off the bed wouldn't bother me either. It is an emergency---right. ;)

I would split the difference, 3" off the bed and 3" out of the galley.

I picked A because it most closely resembles my layout. And after having just spent 2 weeks living in my unit, you could probably loose 6" out of the front area. Bathroom sinks don't need to be as big so you could probably get away with a smaller 12" sink and a narrower counter top there. And if you are just putting a throne of some sort in the corner you have more than enough room. Just my 2 cents worth!
