Need help making a 3" hole

Thanks for all the suggestions, now all I need is for the weather to straighten out and try some of them. I'll let you know how it goes.

Did Gage wander up this way?

It could have been worse Cathy -like if you drilled a three inch hole and only needed a two and a half inch hole.

The weather up here has been great, so I assume that the hole has now been completed. In case not, and another approach is still useful...

You can switch tools and make the hole bigger with your favourite form of saw, including rotary tools such as a router or RotoZip... there's already a (bigger than required) pilot hole now.
