Military coffee terrible?!?!?! That's un-American!

I remember ours was so bad, you had to stir it with a stainless spoon, because it would disolve an aluminum one! :D

I use one of these, coffee, toaster oven, and small griddle all in one. Got it at a local closeout store for $10

Guess I am the only one who is uissing a Senseo. With darkroated pads.
For the times we don't have 220 we use a french press (Melita)

 Ah, now I understand. That makes good sense. I will have to try it. Thanks.

I'm a bit of a coffee nut myself. I like it strong.

When I travel for extended periods of time, especially out of the country, I take a Bialetti Moka Express pot. I have the aluminum one, not the cow one.

It's easy to pack and very rugged. I usually just throw it in my suitcase.

It can be used on a gas or electric stovetop or a flame of some sort.

Brick, You'll enjoy the Moka pot. BUT

Some day try the aeropress. if you want a REALLY, REALLY GOOD Cuppa Joe
Read this thread on Coffeegeek. Give yourself about a week of reading -- there're 28 pages!!

http://www.coffeegeek.com/forums/coffee/machines/195166

Seems I just can't let this one go 8)  But I'm sold on the aeropress. Best cup of java, quickest cup of joe and easiest cleanup ever.

BTW I do like Moka brewed coffee.

MJ, what coffee are you using. In Port Arthur, it was Community or Seaport that most folks used. Seaport would put hair on your chest, as I recall. I don't know if it is still around.

Hey MJ! I LOVE that French Market chickory. After coming back from N.O. I hunted it down here locally. Now it's available at the grocery store around the corner. I haven't had any for a couple of years though. Now you got me thinking about it again. I'm not sure anyone is going to want to share my pot of coffee, but that's not a bad thing!

I love the French Market Chickory coffee as well!! That is some great stuff! I can't believe they actually sell it out here in Seattle even!

Geron, I finally got my Aeropress in the mail, and I have tried it out three times now. The first two times I used regular drip grind coffee, and it was a little on the weak side, but still mighty tasty. Then I picked up a good dark roast Sumatran coffee, espresso ground, and WOW...that was some awesome coffee!! I like Americanos, so I added hot water and a little half and half to it. It made a really nice strong cup of coffee. Best part, the clean up was a total breeze!! This little device is going to be fantastic for camping! Thanks for all the info on it, I am sold! ;) Now I want to pick up an extra one to keep at work!

Amy,

Glad you like the aeropress.
I roast and grind my coffee beans so I can experiment widely.
Matter of fact I'm roasting today.

My favoite process

1 scoop (2 T) beans Medium grind
6 oz water at about 180F.
about a 20 second stir
a 20 second press
a 5 second "cleanup"
Coffee in 45 seconds after the water boils!!!!

Produces a almost espresso strength cup of coffee.

OH BTW! No cream, no sugar -- just coffee. ;)

Not to veer too far to the left...but...as a tree-hugging person who cares deeply about the environment I try to buy Fair Trade, Shade Grown and Organic beans as much as I possibly can. However, I would not turn down a good cup of French Market coffee with chickory. ;)

I have heard really good things about Intelligentsia coffee, and I saw them mentioned on the Coffee Geek forum as well. I'll have to give them a try sometime soon. You can buy beans from them directly off the website, here.
