Well, unlike the adventure reported by Dave Nathanson, we stuck to the hard surface roads, camped at the designated areas and met LOTS of Canadians from various venues in British Columbia. One commented that they had turned out the lights since everyone was in Mexico!
We drove to the mid-peninsula going as far south as Mulege - actually 28 miles to the south of Mulege on the coast of the Sea of Cortez. Lots of beach camping availble with varying degrees of sophistication (and associated expense.) We tended to go to the more remote beaches that were a little harder to reach. These cost around 50 Pesos ($5) per night. That ment the folks with the big hunker motor home RV's wouldn't go there, just the campers mounted on pickups usually driven by the Canadians.
We spend 4 nights south of Mulege then journeyed on to Bahia de Los Angles where we spent another 3 nights on the shores of the Sea of Cortez.
We were really surprised at the green desert! They had lots of rain (for them) in the weeks preceeding our arrival. The desert flowers were all in bloom as were the various varieties of cacti.
We really questioned why we were returning after only 10 days. We agreed that the next time it would be a more extended trip. Discussions currently are from 3 to 5 months but probably down the "mainland" side towards Mazatlan or even further south.
I will be entering the campsites and various info into the How's Camp database for any that are interested.
All in all we traveled over 2,300 miles and enjoyed a most excellent adventure.
