Whats the size and weight of your TearDrop

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

My 4'x 4'x 8' tips the scales at 1050# ready to camp. My frame is the heaviest part. I could have gone lighter but my TV is a GMC PU, so bullet proof trumped light weight. The build I am planning now is going to be a 5'x 5'x 10' with a drop floor so it will be much heavier and I'll go with trailer brakes. Enjoy, Chris.

The Shrunk Bunk has been put in "Mothballs" as I have recently purchased a 1946 aluminum, home built teardrop. Made from surplus aircraft aluminum with the cabin built with an aluminum angle frame. The undercarriage frame is pretty heavy duty metal with 17 inch wheels. It weighs in at 780 lbs, camp ready.

Canned, got any photos of the 46? I have a 48, and would like to see what was around.

I was logging on one more time before uploading the new spreadsheet when I saw yours! You caught me just in time! Thanks. :)

I added ctstaas's to the spreadsheet too. Give me a little more time and you'll see the new one with 4 new adds, including your two.

Coyote, I've added your trailer's weight and size to my spreadsheet and you'll see your trailer's particulars the next time I publish it. I will wait for a few more entries, first. Thanks for your input. :)

Thanks, Dan. Yours has been added as well. When I get a couple more adds, I will publish the revised spreadsheet.

It measures 40 inches wide by 4 ft long and near 24 inches tall. We figure it weighs in round 200-250 lbs. Yes, it IS a Teardrop and once "deployed" it measures 40 inches wide by 7 ft long and 4 ft tall WITH a full galley !

Does anyone have any pictures of Roly's Shrunk Bunk? Curious 8)

Also how do you weigh these things  I haven't a clue. I've got 3 storage boxes which will add up but no Cabinets in the galley and only 1/2" walls at 4 by 8 overall. also Tongue weight? :frightened: How do I figure that out?

Bed Bug is a 5 x 8 "Benroy" style teardrop. The bare empty weight (no battery, etc) is 750 (ish) lbs. Loaded and ready to camp she's a little over 1200 lbs. If we ever build another one I'm sure it'll be lighter as the frame alone on this one is 350 lbs.

I always take my trailers to the local dump/transfer station and put it on the scale. Takes about 2 minutes and they usually don't charge me anythin.

For years after I built my TD in 2006 I estimated weight @ 1150# give or take a few. Last year in October I finally took it to the local Pilot truck stop & put it on the certified CAT scale. Weight on wheels (with battery, propane oven, misc utensils, staples, etc. in galley, & mattress & a couple of folding chairs in cabin) was 980#. Tongue weight on a bathroom scale was just under 200#, so my guess wasn't too far off. My TD dimensions are 114" long (box), 60" wide, & 53" high (box), built on an HF 1800# (now rated 1720#) trailer to which I modified the tongue with a center piece of 2x2x1/8" steel tubing from 2nd cross member forward, adding approx 18" to tongue length.

Looks like a Henway to me and I would bet it doesn't weigh more than 1000 pounds.
