It could be. Same unit, different color. And right now, around $100 cheaper.

I got mine on ebay 2 years ago for $325 new. But that was before they were popular. Overpriced? Yes... Central heat and air in a 16"x16" quiet box that could be built into the tear without being seen from the outside and run off a 1k Genset...Priceless.

I will be building a 6x12 size standy, does anyone have a good instinct about the Petcool for this size trailer? The cooling would have to be enough for the humid southeast. Floor and roof to be insulated, I am undecided at this point about the sidewalls. I have a new 5K windowshaker on hand, and I understand the issue of a small AC cycling too often and not removing the humidity for teardrop application. Same problem, different scale. Does there seem to be enough reserve cooling capacity with the Petcool to handle a larger trailer?

My Petcool works hard just to cool my trailer. it is 5X10 and insulated. It is an early one and only puts out 2000btu, but not much difference for the new ones 2500btu.

Kai,
In your humble opinion are you suggesting the Petcool might be a tad small for a 5 x 10? Or.. seems to run hard to keep your camper cool? Anyone else in a High humidty environment have any thoughts?

Thanks,

Mike

What is the weight of a petcool compared to that of a window air conditioner?
If I could shut my brain off, I could save myself alot of time, money and effort.

I think that a cheep 5000btu unit weighs less than a Petcool. I made legs and straps kind of like the Petcool for my window unit and that worked OK. My problem was that I did not do the duct work for sufficient air flow. I had a chance to sell the unit at a good price after last season of camping, so I will have to make another run at it this year. The best thing about the Petcool is that the condenser coil is well protected.

I live near the third coast. North of Houston. It is plenty hot and humid here. My tear is 5x12. The petcool won't freeze you out, But it keeps it really comfortable. It is used on the beach all the time.
When I insulated I used 1/4" bubble foil on the outside layer. It works good as a radiant barrier. You have to use 2" hose for ducting or you won't get enough airflow.
On Vacation last year we spent 3 days at the Texas Motor Speedway in Ft Worth at 100+ temps. It stayed 75 in the cabin.

Thanks for the info Folks, Off to cut a whole through the Front bulkhead between 2 spars to the Tongue Box! Its going to be a challenge as the Ductwork needs to go almost straight up due to AC unit being tucked under the front curve of the tear. still need to get an AC unit cheap! oh and small.

I just checked the Petcool website today... it says:

Our doghouse climate control system is currently on backorder. You may still purchase this unit for a Mid-September ship date.

FYI, I'm busy designing an A/C system for my teardrop, and an area 8ft long 4ft wide and 4ft high ( or about the size of a large teardrop) requires only about 750 BTU to cool it. Some of the units I see PPL using in the 5000 BTU range is much too high ,and will cycle too often and not dehumidify the air. Just my 2 cents. Dan
