Bringing a US made teardrop into canada. Advice?

Postby chriskub » Mon Feb 07, 2005 12:40 am

Hello everyone,

I am doing research to buying a teardrop and seeking advice from canadians how to go about buying and bringing a teardrop into canada. Of course I will consider a Canadian made one first but interested in all options. I gues the same principle would apply for US citizens buying in canada to bring back into the US.

process?

taxes / insurance?

advice?

thanks in advance,

Everything you need to know is at www.riv.ca

At the BORDER you will have the following steps...

Produce your title documents, registration and sales receipts.

Complete Vehicle Import Form – Form 1, which Canada Border Services Agency will provide.  This requires a Canadian mailing address.  This form must be kept in the vehicle until it is licensed.

Canada Border Services Agency will check your vehicle against  Transport Canada's List of Vehicles Admissible from the United States. They will also verify the public VIN and manufacturer's statement of compliance label on the vehicle to make sure they match.

Canada Border Services Agency will collect your nonrefundable Registrar of Imported Vehicles' fee of $182 in all provinces except Quebec where it is $197.

Payment for the RIV fee may be made directly to Canada Border Services Agency with any major credit card.

As well you will have to pay GST at the border

What are the requirements now for ID to cross into Canada now post 9/11? I haven't been up there in 20 years.

We went into Canada and back to USA 4 days later. We were towing the tear, had a dog, dark tinted windows (stock on our honda odyssey van) and had no problems... I thought they would want to look inside, but both ways, they just let us through.....

We cross the boarder about 10 times a year. We ALWAYS bring our passport and other id. They can get fussy at times, so proper papers are in order! I'm sure this is the same if your a US citizen visiting Canada. Most of the time they just ask a few questions and let us through... although occassionally they pull us over because they want to check out the 'cute trailer'. We have given a few 'Tear Tours' to the curious border peeps.
