towing

Postby jay » Sun May 23, 2004 5:32 am

i am entertaining the possibility of building an ultralight woody the like of which has never been seen. it will mimic the shape of my car [sans hood] in profile and section.

the hard part: what weight can a VW passat wagon comfortably tow - and where can the hitch come from?

any help will be greatly appreciated; thanx

A Passat wagon - V6 or W8? Either will tow a trailer comfortably, I'd say max 1500 pounds. The W8 should handle closer to 2000 pounds. As for finding a hitch, how much do you want to spend? You could get the Euro spec hitch from Europe for around $400, or you could do a google search for hitches and find a domestic aftermarket one for the Passat. That's what i did for my Beetle. If your Passat isn't 4motion, here's a link to a hitch I spotted. This will suit your needs.

Good luck
