Interesting. What's the long term plan? Mounting it on the tongue?

No other plans, if I need it on a trip it goes in the tear while traveling, if I don't it stays home. The great thing about it being separate is that from within the tear you cant hear it. Also I don't have to lug it around in the spring and fall.

Nice setup! The only thing I'd worry about hauling it in the tear is the effect on tongue weight if its not stored over the wheels.

I found the tongue weight way too high in our case when our front box is loaded, or storing a bike in the tear. Something to consider.

I think it's a great idea. Doesn't take up valuable space inside the tear

We have "Boat-drinks" to celebrates everything! :D We tried the A/C out over the weekend and it works greater, it was ran over the entire 3 day camping trip. The thermostat holds the temperature to what you set it at. Also, there was no condensation on the inside, there was a lot on the outside thought  A side benefit of having it set up this way is that it keeps the inside nice and dry.

New member here and I'm going through new and old posts for ideas.

I like the idea of the portable AC- bring it when you'll need it (and have electricity to power it), don't when you won't.

I've been considering something similar for our Chalet but wasn't sure how to control it. It appears that you just removed the control panel and extended the wires. Was that difficult? How many wires were involved and what gauge; i.e. are they just to control the unit or do they carry the compressor power as well?

Do you get plenty of air velocity through the flexible tubing? I was considering using a 4" booster fan to ensure good airflow.

For mounting on our Chalet I would plan on carrying the AC on the rear bumper.

Hey Jim,

Welcome to T&TTT. We'll get you out of that Chalet and into a teardrop yet! Well, at the very least a tiny travel trailer!!! :D

I thought that was what I had :?: It's a trailer, we travel, and with four of us and 11' of interior length it seems plenty tiny!

Of course I was thinking a teardrop or a grasshopper, not one of those huge chalets with a ceiling sooooo high that I can't even reach the peak.

Jim, the wireing was fairly easy. There was a plug on the control panel to the main unit so I made and extension for it. It's just low voltage DC so no need for big wire (I think I used 24 gauge). I did end up changing the pipes, Instead of a send and return I have two sends and no return. It was was freezing up from lack of air flow. I don't have the changes made to my web site yet but here are the pics of what I changed as well as the conrols mounted.

So now you are just sending the cold air into the trailer and getting the return from the outside air and it works?

Sure, this was my first idea and I talked myself in to having a return. Look at it this way. The A/C is for a 10'x15'x8' room (1200 cubic feet) and I have it in a 6'x4'x4' room (less than 96 cubic feet) so theres no real problem with efficeincy but the vent does need to be cracked.
