Fiberglass tear for sale on eBay

Postby samstoybox » Mon Mar 21, 2005 6:13 pm

There is an excellent copy of the all fiberglass American Teardrop up for bid on eBay. If you were wanting one or just wanted a good picture:

Pretty cool.

That's the nicest one of those I've seen but it would feel like sleeping in a porto-potty.

I'd have to agree with you on that, not sure I could bring myself to sleeping in there.
It is in nice shape tho.

I like it.... But not the doors.. they would be a pain to use as many times as I go in and out of the tear.

Good call, Sam, those are useful photos.

What surprises me is that, given the amount of work to make a plug (is that a 'buck' in the US?) with those part-spherical corners and reinforcing grooves running along it - both of those make plenty of work - but then they make the doors and hatch some completely different shape and size. Weird!

And the extra relevance is that the other fan of the gullwing door, John DeLorean, died on Saturday.

That thing is awesome! And it's only 30 miles from Eureka. Perhaps Dan could pick it up and hold it for someone.

Sleeping in a porta-potty? The good folks on Jack Ass would be right at home.

I'm sorry, I meant Dean in Eureka, not Dan.

That is referred to as an EGG by the tiny fiberglass trailer folks.

I have seen that before and I think it was on an old episode of Buck Rodgers as some escape pod. But to be honest that is one neat little trailer. Not for me but neat none the less.

I'll bet if you could look real close, you'd find a Little Tikes logo on it!

It looks more like a walnut to me, than an egg.

I don't see any roof vent. Iit doesn't appear to be insulated. I bet lots of condensation forms on the inside walls on cold-rainy nights.

I agree the single gull wing door would definatly be a pain in the butt. And it appears to have very limited storage.

On the other hand, its probably very light.

It's been up there for 4 days and nobody has bid on it. That's gotta tell you something.

Speaking of fiberglass teardrops. I have an aquaintance who works for the city of San Jose CA. He told me that he knows were there are some old forms for fiberglass teardrops that used to be made there. They seem to be abandoned but they are located on City (or State) property. The next time I see him I will ask if he can supply some pictures of them. He has no idea where they came from but they may government property or just abandoned.
