I have the parts from a neighbors trashed EZUp-type canopy and have been brainstorming about what to do with them.
So far I've taken off the legs and plan to use those to rig a tarp over our rear 'porch'. Right now we have a 10' X 10', but it was really
purchased to put up on the side of the trailer when camping.

Image

I would like to know if I could purchase a pair of these
clamps and what the inside measurement is. They may
be the perfect solution to keeping the legs perpendicular
without having to use guy wires. They would need to be
large enough to hold my 1" square legs (1 1/8"?).

Image

Do you have contact information for the manufacturer
to purchase parts?

Sorry for the delay in responding to you, I didn't notice your post. The clamps that come with the Shade Logic Canopy are 1 1/4" and your EZ up legs would fit right inside. I'm not sure how you are trying to apply this to your EZ UP but I would be mindful that you are dealing with a lot more weight with a EZup as compared to Shade Logic. Nonetheless, my suggestion would be for 69 bucks buy the whole thing and not just the clamps. That way you can have fun seeing if you can make something out of the EZ UP, but if not, you already have a made design canopy to work with.

Here's the number if you want to call the company for parts too though and link to their website.

Let us know how your experiment goes as it sounds interesting! Oh, and here's yet one more field test for you. I just got back from a California coast trip with strong ocean winds blowing and the canopy set up for 3 days straight in Cambria and it was rock steady and quiet. Between the canopy and the teardrop and all of the attention it drew, I ended up meeting some really great people that I continue to stay in touch with today! People approaching me is rarely a hassle and is one aspect I love about teardroppin at campgrounds because these are people I may not have met otherwise.

Just wondering if anyone else has used this in an application for their teardrop? Lots of potential for creativity and now it's on sale for only 59 bucks at Cabela's.

At that price I'm going to get a second one as a spare or to use on a campsite picnic table that's away from the tear.

Oasis Maker,

I've read both your threads on your teardrop side awning solution. Great idea! In one you said:

"5. Lastly, you can remove the top caps on the Clamp screws with a simple allen wrench. I am going to see if I can locate some with a little bigger diameter, increasing the surface area that much more. "

Were you ever able to find a source for those?

My apologies if I missed it somewhere in the thread.

Thanks for a great idea and a well thought out explaination.

I had an "aha moment"... well, more like a "duh moment". Now I simply wedge a piece of wood that's 2 inches wide and 1/2 inch thick to increases the surface area for the clamp screw to go up against, and because it's porous, it tightens much better and doesn't slip like the metal on metal did. "Duh"

Look down at the bracket on this pic and you can see the small piece of wood. Incidentally, this picture was taken as I was driving to change campsites. I had to move to 3 different campsites within a week at Carlsbad State Beach Campgrounds, and I could do it without breaking down the canopy.

At the Pershing gathering last weekend our front porch was a hit. I had posted this on the conversion thread but I am going to copy it over to this thread to keep a great resource going.

We got to see Razorback's (Larry) awning at Crawford last year. I've also seen Oasis Maker's outfit on the forum and really liked that setup. I caught the post about the shade being on sale last year so I snagged one.

Image

I needed a bit extra height and was lost for material that would be lightweight but sturdy enough - and of right dimensions. Well I really lucked out at Lowes. This is equipment mounting gear and is 14 gauge. I took one 36" piece of larger stock and cut 2 - 12" pieces for verticals and 2 - 6" pieces to weld to trailer frame. I used 1 1/4 - 36" pieces of the smaller (1") to slide into the frame mount and the 45 degree support up to 12" piece vertical. A 5/16" PTO pin is just the right size to secure it.
Image

Here is a shot of the top of the larger vertical section. It is just the right size to allow the shade frame to slide in. A bonus are all the appropriate size holes punched every inch.
Image

Finding these pieces kept me from having to cannibalize the picnic table clamp bases - I still have them available for use. The rear door will tie up against the rear post. The outside plug and rope light just work out.
Image

The front door ties against the other side.

A final view of "the front porch"

One could use a solid 1" material and drill the required hole(s) for the lower mounting point and it would be cheaper. I opted to pay the extra for the slotted tube as it gives me a lot of mounting points for other items.

I will shorten the 18" piece of 1" that slides into the lower mounts on the frame. I did not want to be dumping rain on top of the vent so I made them plenty long. The welded up supports can be stowed under the galley/bench currently but taking some of the unnecessary length off will make it easier.

Nathan

Edited 20100425 to correct size of larger tube. It is 1 1/4" NOT 1 1/2"

I see Northern Tool has it for $79 and Home Depot for $87 with free shipping to the stores but some reviews have not been too good on quality...poor plastic fittings and cut too small to fit on the velcro lined frame?

Hmmm?

Slowcowboy,

These rope lights are 120 VAC. I don't have my battery setup quite yet. I would love to have 12 VDC set in future.
