Camping checklist!

Postby Shrug53 » Mon Jun 14, 2004 6:08 pm

Mnay of you probably know this, but I am going to be realatively new at camping (have not camped since I was a boy scout) but I have just found a nifty printable camping checklist on coleman.com and thought I would post the link here for any other first timers:

Tony,

Pre made up check list are good to a point and for a starter. But the best check list is the one you make up with every thing that you think you may need. And then on your first campout, you add or cross out items as deamed. Then when you get home, go over it again. A second look at it will most likely show that you took a lot along that you didn't really need. After a couple of trips, you'll have a good check list.

Just the way I did it. Have a good day.

Hey that's a nifty little list. I'll print that out, and then hone it just like Gage suggested!

A list is required for starters, heck Ida been lost without one. Then the more you go camping you make routines and if you do it often enough you can keep all your gear/junk assembled in one place to throw together in 20 mins when the mood hits. Beats the first time after many seasons of not camping when it took several days and careful thought to compile a mess-o-stuff, half of which I didn't even use.

Hey Dave your close. I carry 5 remotes: DVD, VCR, Sat TV, Radio & the Flip Down Screen. No cable repair kit, if it goes out, it's out. Can't use the Head Set, the space is to confined (but maybe when I get the Big Screen on the galley wall I'll be able to use the head set outside ( but then every one who comes over to watch the latest movie won't be able to hear it (only have two head sets)). Guest book yes but you forgot 'cash box' to keep all the money I bring in selling tickets to the movies (have to pay for all that stuff some how  ).

Chip is right about the batteries. and I don't need a 50A hook-up. Everything is 12volt (except for the Sat receiver and I run it off the inverter). That's when I watch it, which has only been once. Lining up the dish is a pain in the donky (remember, family board). So for the most part for now, the dish stays home. But I'm saving my pennies to buy another dish with remote and automatic sat finder (good gref, another remote). Oh, I don't need a box for the CD's or DVD's. They're kept behind the 'Hang Ten' sign.

So just ask and I'll come up with something, I have an answer for everything. I learned that from someone on this board.

Have a good day,

5 remotes!

Gotta tell my wife about that!

Do you have a shot of your setup with dish. That would be a classic.

And about that big screen. Just modify the galley to hing up higher. Then more campers will be able to watch your movies... better make those PG.

With all that gear in the cabin, I guess you just toss the dirty clothes out the door at night huh?

I have no idea Ryan. If I was to worry about that, it wouldn't be there  . I have a 15amp solar pannel that I hook to the battery durning the day for charging and have never lost the battery sense. I've been out for two weeks and I don't have it hooked up to the tow for charging while on the road. (yet)

Mind you, when I built the Scotsman I didn't worry about elect use or weight. I put in it what I wanted, built it the way I wanted it, only thinking about where things were to go to help put as much weight towards the rear as possible. The Scotsman unloaded has 225lbs tongue weight and when it's loaded (water, ice, food, etc, etc, etc), I end up with 150 lbs tongue weight. And doing 100mph on a California Freeway to get out of the way of all the out of state drivers that want a close look of your tear, it follows straight & true. (I don't know where I was going with that) :?:

Straight and true...

Yup those 15inch wheels (I assume yours are 15inch Gage) are great! I'm glad we have the large wheels too as it makes all the difference, tracking very well when tearing down the highway, passing all the rednecks

Gage do you have internet access in their yet? Once I solve that problem I'll be able to work from our tear all summer.

Yes on the 15" wheels and also shocks (they work, even on the hwy). No plans on carrying a computer, no time for a computer. I try not to even listen to any news while out and about. When I go camping or to a gathering, all I want to do is kick back and relax. Shoot the breeze and go look in antique stores, thrift stores and peoples back yards and explore old cemeteries. I do miss my F1 and Transam racing as well as CART & WRC (by not taking the dish). That to will change as soon as I get some more pennies saved up. That's one upgrade that is coming sooner than planned.
