Skinned the roof today . . .

Postby Geron » Fri Apr 29, 2005 1:14 pm

Had a short break today so I pulled a sheet of 4x10x.040 and taped it to the roof. WHEEEW! the body was not racked. The fit was very good. Trimmed it to the hatch spars and now for the test. Take her off level and set her down on the wheels. Again Wheew! she still did not rack. The first maiden voyage into the drive way:

After some exposure to UV to warm her up I applied the trim to hold the skin on. Glad this stage is over.

If it's not broken, you're not trying hard enough.

What screws did you use for your molding? Predrill? Panhead? SS?

I used a 3/4" #6 SS for the edge moulding. The moulding was predrilled but I had to drill through the AL top. I"ve yet to put any in the sides. I believe one every 4" in the top will hold it securely along with the silicone caulk. I'll probably get nervous and put a 1/2 x 6 inbetween every other top screw.

For the Door moulding I used AL drive screws. I was afraid to do that into the edge of the 3/8 inch plywood.
