Tires too big?

Postby Scooter » Wed Jun 16, 2004 7:53 pm

Can tires be too big for a teardrop? Assuming proper axle and spring ratings, would 16 truck tires be too much for an 800 lb. tear? Prone to hydroplaning or other ill manners?

Thinking of upgrading my Harbor Freight trailer to the same 6.50x16s on my 52 Chevy truck (also dropped axle and new springs).

You'd be interested to know that most old teardrops came with 16" wheels originally.

My 1947 Ken-Skill would have had 6-lug Chevy truck wheels on it with 600-16 tires. Several other ones did too.

You should have no problems and you won't have to worry about having two spares.
