With help or alone?

Postby Shrug53 » Wed Jun 23, 2004 9:16 am

I am curious, did most people here tackle their builds alone or with help?
If you did it alone, was there anything that was dificult to handle that way?
When I lived in Los Angeles, I had several buddies who would come and help with any project in exchange for lunch. Since moving to Phoenix I have not been able to make any friends, so any project I take on, I will be on my own (at least I have good advice from the board here).
Before I start I was just wondering if there was anything that would stop me cold because of the lack of help.

start cutting and building out in the open,,its amazing how curious folks get when they see ya building anything,,let alone a box to sleep in,,,lol,,ya might make a new friend or three,,

as far as building it helps to have an extra hand every now and then but it can be a one person job if they none available,,

Well, I pretty much did mine on my own. I did ask my wife, Liz, to come and lend a hand (or two) when I needed more than my own. For example, holding the interior plywood skin while I got it positioned, etc. For the most part, a little prior planing, lots of clamps and a couple of pieces of 1x2 nailed to a wall and/or ceiling and other clever things like that will get you by.

By the way, I had my frame built - I didn't try and do welding. That might make a big difference.

Bottom line - you can do it on your own with occasion wife-power (teen-age kids could also be substituted.)

Enjoy :D

help or alone?

being a carpenter tackling his first teardrop, i definitly will have help skining the ply with aluminum. When i do a counter top i always have an extra set of hands. That adhesive can be very unforgiving

Had my wife sit in the tear when marking off shelf locations, dinette seating, etc. For tear construction and other odd mechanical jobs I've been a loner for years. Extra hands can be handy, but with ingenuity there's ways to do most of it by yourself.

My wife helped me purchase our tear

I do some of the easier modifications but we had a cabinet maker build our galley modifications after we spent a lot of time on design.

I'll also have someone else color match paint our teardrop fenders and install them when we get to that.

I am slaving alone in my quest to super polish our tear by hand. Anyone wanna help out?
