Anyone ever tried this type of construction???

Postby Marck » Wed Jun 22, 2005 10:39 pm

This is a pic of a "Runlite"
Has anyone tried construction using the bowed roof like this???

I was thinking, would it be too immense a job to frame like this, then use fiberglass over the roof supports???
Would it be lighter??, perhaps if done right, it would allow light in???
Maybe???

Marck,
A while back... Someone on the boat building forum posted a pic of a woodstrip teardrop they built using the same method as how woodstrip canoes and kayaks are built. Talk about some huge station forms...

I kind of like the unusual shape... seems like it would take a bit of fitting and the inside could be time consuming to sheet/strip..... but, again, it is appealing.. kind of feminine/soft looking... and it might punch through the air a bit better.

He is making good head way on the build. It will be great to see the finished product, I saw the frame and the floor (deck) at his house and some pictures. If anybody can do this, he can, the guy has some skills! As long as the "Roots" don't take affect

Remember the original design used canvas fabric for the roof, I think that he is attempting the same thing.
