If I put a vent in the floor of the galley for heat exhaust, won't that allow water up from the road when in transit? Anyone? Anyone? sweaty

In my experience holes in the bottom of the trailer have been problem free. I did all my venting (A/C and otherwise) through the bottom of my trailer so as to hide the a/c from view. I think the A/C box is ugly therfore I chose to hide it. I felt that venting through the galley was a poor choice because I would have to keep the galley door open during rain (a humid time when the A/C is needed) and night when I wanted both water and critters out. In the end I decided that water was more likely to get in through an open hatch than a hole in the bottom of the trailer. I also rulled out vents in the side of the trailer for asthetic reasons.

I did consider the splash and spray issue and decided that if it was necessary I would construct a skirt around the holes. As yet they have not yet been a problem.

John - I like it! I like it! Do you have any kind of vent screen or covering below the A/C in its little box? Is it sealed up tight? What is the vent below the A/C in the cabin. Is that a heater to the right of the A/C in the photo? And, finally, what in the heck does "Penomeli ikibobo" mean?

The way I have mine setup, it draws air in from the galley and exhausts it out thru thr top. I ran it 24hours a day for 4 days, with the hatch closed most of the time, without any problems. The hatch was closed but it wasn't latched. I'm pretty shure my hatch isn't 100% sealed.

I had planed on (and bought) screens to cover each hole (the kind used on the eaves of homes with the screens attached to metal louvers). I thought that if they were turned the right way they would keep water splash as well as bugs out. So far neither have been a problem. My time insted has been used on unfinished trim bits.

I built the AC platform with that PL glue stuff from Lowes so all gaps are sealed. The front of the AC is trimed in with Luan and held in place with screws for possible repair reasons. The back of the AC is covered with the same kind of luan as the front and is held in place with only the row of screws at the top. the bottom is fitted behind the flooring.

The vent at the bottom in the cabin: The area below that vent is a low pressure area where air is drawn into the condenser by the AC. I tapped into that low pressure area to draw air out of the cabin and fresh air in while the AC was on to keep 02 levels up. Also, with the AC portion of the AC turned off and only the fan running I would, in effect, a roof vent with out an actual roof vent.

Yes, to the right of the AC is an electric heater.

Wow, a lot of great ideas here.
The bigest one being that the A/C unit has to be able to dispell the hot air, they have to breath. Period.
I'm agreeing with Dooner, you need a clear discharge shot out the back to make sure they are able to breath.
If you look at my picture the the left of this post, see right by my left knee, thats a little door that I open only when I'm running the A/C unit.
This is a 18x21 boxed in discharge chute, it's the same size as the back of the A/C unit or even a bit bigger. If I ever have any trouble I can pull it straight out the back for service or replacement, (Don't forget that).
I also placed the entire A/C unit in a 2" deep tin tray with a slight slope to the corner to collect the condensate, it drains to a fitting with a pipe going
through the floor.
I do have to leave this door open when running the A/C but who cares, it's mostly at night anyway.

Good Luck

Hey Gadget Man,
Thanks for agreeing wit me. In my opinion, it's great to get it into a hiding spot out of the way and look good, but the unit was designed as it is, so to get the full function of it, it is best to install it so it can function.
I was thinking of a same design as yours with a full vent door. Who cares if the vent door is open, as long as I'm cool. I'm not sure if I will go to the front or rear of the TD. Since I haven't even started yet, I got some time to figure that out.
I checked your album and did not find any pics of the a/c install. It would be great if you could add some pics of it. Front and back. Back with door open. Close details.
Great job.

And all the other guys,
Great job on yours too. If you can get it to work in the spot where you want it, thats great. That is what it's all about, making yourself happy (and if your like me, the wife has to be happy first).
Dooner.

Here's another way to exhaust the hot air from the A/C without having any openings in the sides or top of your TD. That's a 6" exhaust fan and blast gate at the bottom to keep the critters out when the A/C is not in use.

Thats cool. Speaking of cool, where do you get the intake air from?

Dooner

I know, I know...
Mad Jack has been after me too, to get some more "pics" posted.
I only have a couple hundred build photos, I have them all in an album and boy am I glad, I've had to refer back to them many times while adding the finishing touches to the rig. I needed to remember where my wires were run through the walls before I added some inside coat hooks.
Stuff like that.
I'll try to get my 14 year old son to sit still long enough to help me (Again) with posting some more photos.

Intake air comes in at the top of the bulkhead just behind the galley hatch hinge, or if the galley hatch is closed I have an vent inside the TD that I open.
