Skinned the Baja Benroy today...

Postby mikeschn » Sat Apr 17, 2004 4:04 pm

I've got the Baja Benroy insulated and skinned about 2/3rds of the way. See picture here... Image

I think we are going to camp out again tonight. :D

Well it was so comfortable, we couldn't resist!!! Besides, we want to figure out what changes need to be made before we get too far along. For example, we decided that we need a shelf above the window! I will probably do that before I paint the sides, since those screws go in from the outside!

Very sharp looking Mike. Is that an outlet on the front right coner near the top? What did you end up skinning the out side in? Two layers of 1/8" or one layer of 1/4"?

Actually, you are seeing the exhaust from the furnace...

There's an electrical inlet on the street side of the teardrop, but no, I don't have a outlet on the outside. Well, there's a couple in the galley. Those will work fine for an outside connection! :)

Mike...

Oh, I ended up with 5.2 mm luan on the front and top, and 1/8" plywood on the bend. Two layers of 1/8" is too thick. :( So now I have to figure out a way to blend in the 2 different thicknesses. Nothing is ever easy, is it?

Nice job there Mike. Looking good. Looing at the pic with the skin on it. Looks like the tires stick out just a little from the sides. I think it would look really neat with some of those black plastic fenders like on a jeep over them.

Mike,

have you given any thought as to how you are going to lift that hatch. That's one big tear you have there. Really nice looking but One big tear.

Yes, I was thinking about doing it with the gas struts on each side. Once I get the hatch skinned I can play with them. Then again, maybe I should do the playing before I skin the hatch! I wonder if it would be heavy enough then???

I think I would play with it before skinning. Easy to get to the struts. Other wise you will have to climb inside the kitchen the have someone close the hatch.
