Rerun

Postby Sidekick » Wed May 28, 2014 8:24 am

Having built several boats and other projects I know how hard it is to weatherproof seams. Tghat is why I am starting out with a weather prooftop taken off of an old coversion van. It has some nice curves and should look spiffy when the package all comes together.

Total spent to date
Fiberglass topper- 50.00 local pick and pay
axle- 0 ( donated by one of my friends)
frame metal -78.00
wood for floor 34.00- Home Depot
wood for framing- free ( taken from crated a/c units at past job
Lights- 32.00
wiring- free ( left over from Dune Buggy fab
switches- 6.00 off ebay
Inverter- Donated by my father

The adventure begins
I am calling the trailer RERUN because it is mostly made up of salvaged pieces and parts giving them a new purpose..
Once I figure out how to upload pictures I will post them

Subscribed!!!

Often, walking through the yards, I've looked at not only the conversion vans "below" the fiberglass toppers, but also at the toppers themselves as a solid starting point. I'm anxious to see what you arrive at.

And above all else, I'd say you are working on MY budget! LOL

Hi SK, I like your minimalism. The plans I used said my build should cost around $700. $2000 later and I have a fine TD. Still room for improvements too-Yippie!
Enjoy Yours, Chris

Good idea on that van top. I always keep my eye open for a small boat.

We're using a pickup truck canopy, for the same reason as you - at least the top bit will be leakproof. :-)

Any pics of your build yet ?
Best Cheers

I'm with Rob. That is a very nice build. In looking through your gallery pics, the interior looks like you covered the walls and ceiling with carpet (or hull liner or speaker enclosure fabric.) How'd you frame the walls?

The trailer was framed with 2x2, lined with 3/4 foam then inside skin was 18 in hard board with decking carpet glued with scotch 77 high bond. Makes it nice and quiet inside

I tried the pickup topper thing and they were way to heavy and most times had too much glass in them. I had in my pile 6 toppers that I got off craigslist for free. I relisted the glass and hinges on Craigslist and was able to get gear for the trailer.

There are plenty of pics that I have posted of the build. The trailer has survived 2 years of use with only a rear hatch problem that was easily solved. I am on to my second attempt
