Bug hitch

Postby beverlyt » Tue Aug 03, 2004 2:56 pm

Hello all!
Well, the hidden hitch is installed on the bug and it looks great. When I take the bar out, you don't can't even see the hitch. (comes with a cover too)

Took the trailer for a short ride down the street. Could hardly tell it was there! Car didn't dog... stopped fine. And I can see around the trailer with my regular mirrors!
Perfect!
:)

Jim,
That would be our 1950's something "Century". It's about a 13' or 15' trailer..been in the family for years.
Used mostly for hunting season.
It's kinda cool...but needs some tlc.

Hi Beverly,

Looks like the VW was just made for pulling a tear. Was looking at the picture and if you don't mind me giving a hint . . . it's good practice to criss-cross the safty chains under the tongue so if it comes off the tongue will be cradled in the chains.

Looks like I'll be getting a hitch soon for my Jetta, so I can pull #3 on our mad dashes across the state(s). Any recommendations as to the type of hitch?

Bev or Jolene, does your hitch have a 2" receiver?

hidden hitch is my recomendation, and no, you can't get a 2 inch receiver for a class I hitch. it's an 1 1/4 in receiver.

Sorry Jolene, but I asked for a 2" and that's what I have.
I think you're right... the ole girl should tow the tear just fine. I sure do hope so... I hear a new auto-transmission is $5000 in a bug. OUCH!!

Bev:

Just do the auto tranny service more oftent han normal..i do mine every 70K miles instead off "lifetime" that VW recommends. I got the parts off dieselgeek.com (tranny parts should be the same) and had the servicing done by a trusted mechanic. He said the tranny looked great and my car is suffering no ill effects from towing.
