Harbor Freight Trailer Light Recall

Is everyone aware there was a recent recall on the trailer lights that Harbor Freight has been selling in their kits for the last 10 years? I figure since a lot of the folks here use the HF trailers this would be big news!

I'm not sure if this includes the parts that came with trailers, or just the separately purchased light kits, but it appears to encompass both Incandescent and LED versions.

I submitted my info for the recall since I installed the LED kit on my HF folder that I use for utility. When I purchased them I did notice they didn't have any side illumination in the housing, and even went through the thought process of how to add some (though never acted on it). I did receive the replacement units. They are LED in the rear facing portion, but have small incandescent lamps behind the red side reflectors. Chintzy fix but at least they are legal.

I received a recall notice for the trailers dated between January 2006 and April 2016 but my recall was not for side markers.

The letter I received stated:

"Item number 93861 ay have an incorrectly positioned rear lamp bracket that may not illuminate the license plate. Item number 69624 may have lenses that are not compliant. If the trailer lights fail to comply with the standard, the trailer may be less visible to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash."

I wonder if there are 2 seperate recalls.

Sorry I just saw your post was from 2015. I was doing searches on Google and kept finding information on the recent recalls for both side markers and license plate illumination issues. I wonder if they reisued the recall from 2015 and added a new recall?

I got a recall notice from them this week, too. Sent in the postcard. An adapter kit is coming free of charge. I had noticed no license light and picked up one at Auto Zone when I was building. Guess I'll figure out if it's that or lens when the kit comes. Harbor Freight followed through the right way. Good for them. I've never regretted buying from them.
