Since the early 1800's wooden matches have been pretty reliable at high altitudes.

It is just a fact of physics that as far as stoves go high altitudes are a bit of a problem and water boils at a lower temperature so it takes longer to cook at a high altitude.

I use a butane torch for most all uses from lighting pilot light burners through campfires. Bernzomatic has a couple and there are many from assorted Chinese mfg. Good down to around freezing where the butane gas begins to have problems vaporizing. Keep the fuel warm and you're good. I've also used the propane type that screw on a cylinder and have a built in piezo igniter. However, I like the butane size better for portable uses.

I also have weather resistant screw on lid metal canisters with strike anywhere matches stored in the truck, trailer, cabin, workshop, garage, home for emergencies. Amazon sold some strike anywhere type last I looked. For emergency use I like them better than the strike on box type.

So I dont usually encounter high elevations, but I do encounter blistering cold.

Zippos work when a butane lighter is just a warm thought.

A little more maintenance, but its nice to know its going to light.
