I have one from over a year ago and wanted my money back. I could not get it to work. Maybe things are better now. Their tech support was of no help to me.
And I see the downside being that there needs to be a significantly large user base out their for it to work effectively. And what good is it if your are off the grid or just away from participants. I see it being a more metropolitan rather then rural thing.

This is more for tagging keys or your wallet, and good for around the house. You have to be physically near it, or, someone else who uses the program needs to be near it. It uses Bluetooth which is limited to 30 meters. There's another device similar called Tile which has the same restrictions.

For a vehicle, OnStar is your best bet, or a LoJack.

Check out Itraq. It sounded like what I wanted, except for needing a cell phone. They are working on connection to computer.

I think it was the Tucson Tortoise on here that uses summer kind of GPS tracker, check towards the end of that build thread...
