Local sources for butyl tape?

Postby booyah » Tue Apr 11, 2017 7:39 am

So my TD started leaking by the fantastic fan. When I installed it (two years back) I did so with 100% silicone, but it appears to be suffering from the heat cycles, and appears to be the weak point.

I know I can order like 30ft of butyl tape from amazon, but I'd rather buy it locally. My local home depot, lowes and menards dont carry it, but I wondered if I was overlooking another possible source.

Any help on where to find it?

Background info, td is stored outside in Michigan. Anyone local knows what that means, lots of rain, snow, and bad things, lots of temp swings (30-40 degrees in a day is not uncommon). Its tarped over the winter so snow build up doesnt compromise the vent seal. I found the leak just before I tarped it for the winter, and it was a very mild leak. Got the mattress and bed clothes out, and tarped her up. I've checked a few times since the tarp went on and shes dry right now.

Not sure the tape is best but I got it from a glass store. Used all the time for big windows - plate glass in a frame.

That's where I found mine. It was a small project and they sold a partial roll to me at a discount price. If you can get it at an RV place that does repairs, perhaps they would sell it by the foot, so you're not stuck with a giant roll.
