Hello all

What is the average age of a teardrop owner?

From going to many gatherings over the last 15 years from mere observation I'd say the average age of a teardropper is somewhere between after the kids are grown and gone to just a little past the age of multiple trips to the restroom during the night. You'll have to do the math.

My guess would be 62, plus or minus a few... That's when we get to retire, and travel the country!

That is a very fair estimate but I have seen more families. I am 47 and we were tent campers for a long time. This has been a great upgrade for us. Gets me off the ground , quick set up, galley is ready to roll. I think it is a more economical choice and gives us the freedom to do more camping without the fear of bad weather, especially in Florida.

Mike...
  • Unless your job has worn you down first; it may take a while to get up and running....I started my TTT build at 61, "finished" it almost two years later, and started limited camping at 63 (waiting to do some real camping after retirement). About that time, my work load quadrupled, as my workplace laid off half the people, and increased production by at least two-fold...then laid-off more people.
  • I struggled through the hardest years in my 46 years of working there, as the stress (matched by physical demands) worked me over. I made it through the worst "heavy season" ever, and retired at the end of '16.
  • It took me ten months to get back to where I wanted to be "working on it" (anything and everything, my life-long habit), repairing things, designing wished-for things, and even wanting to camp again. I was worn out.
  • Now, at 66, I want to solo camp-be adventurous-, but I know I shouldn't, so I'll resume group camping where I left off almost two years ago. And my travels can't be of long-duration, either. My much younger-wife still works, and I can't drop my domestic responsibilities entirely upon her, and having ten pets requires constant care. We've never vacationed together, for that reason, and probably never can do so. But, I refuse to sit and watch TV, as many of my relatives had filled their senior years doing; even interactive forum-hopping during idle hours inside, should help keep one sharper, in mind and spirit, than watching the same drivel on TV. Yes, I binge-watched Netflix and Amazon Prime, and others, for those first months after retiring; now, I haven't started any new series, and haven't turned on the TV since the Super Bowl.
  • I admire and envy the activity and enthusiasm so many seniors on this forum have shown, continually building-camping-experiencing new things, and sharing them on the forum. A true "joie de vivre". May I ever fit that mold? probably not so much, but I'll try to get out more, and hope that the spirit touches me, too.

When we were camping in Lake Superior Provincial Park last fall after school was in session we encountered three teardrops an four fiberglass eggs i.e. a Bolar, Trillium, Casita Note all were folks like us who were retired and empty nesters. I would hazard a guess that this will bias either, pre kids, or post kids as to teardrop owners.
However anecdotes do not equal data, and with out doing a study...

I believe the average age is really a colour .......Grey !! So much so judging by a lot of the avatars as well, I conclude it must also be mandatory
If it's anything like the number of heads being exposed as grey when the helmets are removed at the gas stations these days too

Hmmm, let's see - chronologically I'm 64, mentally I'm 9 and physically I'm 137. Yeah, that's about right.

finally started at 58 (wishing now I would have started earlier after all of the years of "just thinking teardrops were so cool every time I would see one on the road" and yes, I was one of those 'look-e-leuws" hanging off your left shoulder when cruising down the freeway checking it out 8) ) Am now 63. "... much too young too feel this damn old"...... :)

Pretty much the same story here. Once I can get both kids pushed out the door at the same time, me and the Mrs. are going to lock the door and leave with our TD.

Left the driveway for the fist time with the Teardrop when I was 60.....coming up to 65 this May.
One interesting stat that came up last year while we attended gatherings.
It seemed that all of the women in our large group where 52 last year.
