Hurricane hinge

I have a notchless hurricane hinge and was wondering if you have to shim it up some to accomodate for the seal on the hatch

There is a type that is offset for the seal. Or you could trim the sidewall back to allow the seal to fit.

I'm scratching my head. I suppose it depends on how you've built your hatch? I build mine so that the roof melts to the hatch surface with a 3/8" gap for the hinge to drop into.

I have never understood the purpose of an off-set hinge.
