National Parks Senior Pass Going Up 8/28/17- 62 and older

Postby sid » Fri Jul 14, 2017 3:31 pm

I just turned 62 and bought my America The Beautiful Senior Pass, The National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass. It is still currently $10, but will be going up to $80 on August 28, 2017.

What does the Senior Pass provide?
The annual and lifetime Senior Passes provide access to more than 2,000 recreation sites managed by six Federal agencies.

· National Park Service
· U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service
· Bureau of Land Management
· Bureau of Reclamation
· U.S. Forest Service
· U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

The passes cover entrance and standard amenity (day use) recreation fees and provide discounts on some expanded amenity recreation fees.

Travelling companions can also enter for free. The Senior Passes admit pass owner/s and passengers in a noncommercial vehicle at per-vehicle fee areas and pass owner + three adults, not to exceed four adults, where per-person fees are charged. (Children under 16 are always admitted free.). Also, at many sites, the Senior Passes provide the pass owner (only) a discount on Expanded Amenity Fees (such as camping, swimming, boat launching, and guided tours).

Lots of information here, including where to purchase... https://store.usgs.gov/faq#Senior-Pass

Half price at U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Campgrounds.....

I got mine several years ago. Best $10 I've ever spent.

Buy a second one and put it away. You lose the one you have, it'll be $80. There is no database for a replacement.

just to confirm the info being given out here, it is true this time around - I spoke to the friend that works for the National Park here is my area and they were given this Aug date to start selling the passes for $80. She this last week or so has been crazy with all of the people that are coming buying the $10 pass before it goes up in price.

I just took my Mom to the Grand Canyon (and most other places around Northern Arizana/Southern Nevada) and had her purchase her pass. Saved us $20 just getting into the Grand Canyon, I'm hoping it saves her a whole lot more over the rest of her lifetime. I couldn't remember the age requirement as we were sitting in line waiting to get to the fee booth and at 64 3/4, she was afraid you would have to be 65. We were happy to be wrong.
Why do we drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?
