I was just addressing this concern which was in response to my claification that propane can be stored for centuries NP.

I believe new DOT-type metal bottles are 15 years from mfg date, then need re-cert inspection every ten years.

Stamped right on the collar. True even for aluminum, which of course don't rust.

I doubt you'd actually have much trouble with the Viking tanks in practice, quiet confident manner expecting success.

Worst case carry the DOT cert docs, maybe a notarized letter from the US distributor put impressive official looking stamps on it.

Nice bonus thing is, they're transparent, see the level at a glance.

John,

Aluminum can corrode and does.

Just a bump on this, I went camping for four days at 4500’ altitude, temps down to -2 F. I took the Sportsman instead of the Ryobi propane.

Started and ran fine, did a good job, but at 800W, it couldn’t keep up with the startup surge on my 500W electric heater. The 350W heater was fine but itself couldn’t keep up with the low temps. I was getting 5+ hours on a not-quite full tank. I ended up resorting to a heater buddy for heat, running it for 20 min. every hour or so. The Sportsman worked great but just not big enough to provide electric heat in those temps.

Would have liked to hear how the ryobi ran in those conditions.

Ah well. I know boiling point for propane is -42F, so below zero shoudnt be a problem as long as its not WAY below zero

Yeah, I wasn’t prepared to risk it, but I guess I should brought both along. Next time.
