What did you do to your trailer today?

Postby Socal Tom » Sun Sep 17, 2017 9:30 pm

For my part, I installed a cheap PWM solar charge controller, and rewired a few things to that the controller could manage most of the load ( except the waeco fridge). I have a modified IKEA dioder LED system in my galley ( actually 2). I was surprised to see that it draws almost 1 amp when on white light, and about 4 when on blue or green.

I painted the underside of the plywood floor, and made a router template for the door latch.

Finished the cut and installed the aluminum framework I made to hold the two solar panels to the roof. Also made new panel supports that fold up inside the panel frame. All works well. Ready to go camping in a couple of weeks.

Put a new plastic cover on the roof vent. A storm blew the brittle original clean off, and one of the great vendors on here had an exact replacement for a super reasonable price, and shipped it super quick. Now just need a weekend to get out with it....

What did you do to your trailer today?

Made a few modifications to my loading. Expanded the tongue so I can carry a 20lb tank. Relocated my water to over the fenders.

I still need to trim the corner off the tongue board, but I promised not to get sawdust on the laundry, so I’ll do that next time I pull it out of the garage. Also need to paint a few things, but I want to make sure it works well before I invest the time into making it pretty. The P/S tank feeds my water pump, so it sits a little higher to allow for the fittings.

Since it was spose to be -3° last night I put some Irish Spring inside. I heard it keeps the mice out. Works cuz I have been doing that for 3 years and never had a mouse problem. Soon it will be time to sit by the fireplace and daydream about camping. :)

Wheels and tires. The wheels on our 38 year old 4x8, metal box utility trailer, were allowed to get very rusty. I've been having valve stem sealing problems because of the rusting. The UT does not get used a lot and the use is mostly around town. No long trips with it.

So, I bought 2 new white spoke trailer wheels and had them fitted with new made in USA Goodyear Endurance tires (ST205/75R15). Those new wheels and tires were placed on the CTC. The now almost 4 year old chinese tires and wheels from the CTC (same size, same wheel bolt pattern) were then installed on the UT.

And the tire shop was good enough to not charge me the used tire disposal fee, when I asked if they would do that.
