NEW CD COMING!

Postby Shrug53 » Fri Aug 13, 2004 3:51 pm

I am currently working on a new trailer plans CD.

This CD will include several of my own original teardrop and tiny trailer concept designs and will sell for about $20.00

In addition I will be including several FREE bonuses on the CD.
First, I have purchased several original magazine articles from the 30's to the 50's. The actual pages, not just poor scans! I am scanning each page, removing the yellowing, cleaning them up and converting them to PDF documents. I have also purchased poor, yellowed scans and am busy cleaning those up and converting them to PDF as well. There will be over a dozen plans!

As an extra bonus I have purchased the 1937 book called "How to Build Trailers" This book has great plans on various types of travel trailers, and also delivery trailers (even one small enough for a bicycle!) and even a barge to easily convert your travel trailer to a houseboat. You just drive the trailer on to the barge, latch it down, and go. Then you unlatch it, hook it up to the car, and drive off while the barge stays berthed in the water. I am doing the same cleanup and enhancement on that to create a 132 page PDF.

I started this because there were so many poor scans out there, yellow, dirty, and hard to read. All of these pdf documents are yours FREE when you purchase the CD with my original design concepts! Look for it soon!

But wait! There's more! I will be donating a couple of these to this board as prizes for contests. I will have to discuss it with Mike, but one contest I would like to see is "best electrical system"

I will keep you all posted!

p.s. The material I am giving for free should not have technically been sold in the first place, but I have invested over $150.00 on the material! Not to mention many man hours on my own designs, and also clean up work! This is going to be a must have!

Best electrical system eh? That's actually a very good idea, since not all woodworkers are electricians...

So how would you suggest that electrical systems be presented for judging, so that the rest of us can understand it?

Oh I would think a simplified schematic with parts plainly labled rather than complex symbols. Something that a non-tech, or non-electrician can follow.
Part of it would also be a well laid out panel like Dee Bee made.

Nothing insane like an idea I had to use an old PIII motherboard for control and monitoring (though that would be ok if it could be illustrated for the common person)

So basically I am thinking there would be a couple of key elements for judging

1. Practicality (simple to build with readily available parts)

2. Functionality (something that gives you good features like power hookups, switch for a relay to change from Inverter to campgournd supply, system monitoring, etc.

3. Cost (it should fit a meager budget, see number 1.)

4. Compactness (you should get the most functionality possible without taking up the entire wall of a trailer)

5. Safety. (panel should be fused and have some sort of emergency switch to shut the entire system down in an emergency.)

6. Appearance. (it should be an attractive panel / box, preferably using a project box or panel from an electronics hobby store, or just simple aluminum that can be easily worked with a dremel tool.)

How does that sound?

By the way here is a link to a great piece of software that will assist people in drawing simple wiring diagrams / schematics.

So you think if the information is presented like this, that everyone can understand it and judge it fairly...

Sure, or a simple line drawing. I think that anyone who could design a circuit, could simplify it enough. Later I will scan and post one of my roginal schematics from tech school, way back when, to show that even it is pretty easy to read.

All the old scans are over 50 years old and out of copyright. To top it off, they are free. I am not asking one cent for them. People will be buying my own, personal, original concept designs.

If I have any problems, then there are dozens of people on ebay who will have bigger problems because they are selling the plans. Heck they are even selling Andrews diagrams!

Shrug,
Here is some info to assist you.

Works already in the public domain cannot be protected under the 1976 law or under the amendments of 1992 and 1998. The Act provides no procedure for restoring protection for works in which copyright has been lost for any reason.

No those are not my plans on ebay. My disc is not even ready.

I would like to reiterate that I am not selling any plans at all. Just passing along plans which should not even have been sold in the first place.

I am just sharing with my friends. As a favor I have dozens of hours cleaning up and enhancing those old scans to make them easier to read.

I am selling over 20 of my own original concept floorplans and designs along with notes on building and adapting my concepts in to an easy-to-build trailer, tailored for an individuals needs. I will even be including the original photoshop files so people can easily go in and fiddle around with the concepts. This is a first. I have been a graphic designer for years and have never shared any of my original PSD files with anyone, not even my own design clients. Only the finished work. So I would say that is worth 20 bucks.

Since there will be so much empty room on the disc, I am just sharing these old scans for nothing.

Seems a huge coincidence that if these auction(s) are NOT yours that another entrepreneur had exactly the same idea. What are the chances?

If you search Ebay right now you will find 15 different people selling the same old plans. Plans they have no right to sell. Only desertteardrops are selling thier own original plans.

I will be the only one selling my own original concepts.

Tell you what. You will not be required to buy it. There, feel better?

If you have only come to this site to criticize rather than participate, maybe you should go over to another board. We all like and support each other here.

In defense of Shrug, why would he post the plans for free on his site then afterwards, try to sell them. It makes no sense.

My interpretation is that he is offering his original designs for sale, but you will get the old plans as a bonus.

That is precisely right Asianflava. I will be offering 20 original design concepts with photoshop files so people can fiddle around and make things just like they want them.

As for Dan, the only nerve he struck was the nerve which gets irritated when somebody only posts negative comments rather than trying to be a useful part of our community.

The only reason I would rather put the extra pdf file on the CD rather than my website is because it takes a lot of bandwidth to download them, and I have to pay for that out of my own pocket.

If enough people complain I will just drop the idea all together. It is not as if I stand to make a profit, only break even.

I am with Shrug. We do not need negative crap spewing from the mouth of an idiot. I for one did not join this board to have someone that has nothing better to do then get on a board they do not belong and spew venom. Go back to surfing porn...
