Excellent!

Nice to know not every aspect's been taken over by computer algorithms. Yet.

Lose the title and vin number on the trailer. Claim it as home built.

That doesn't really change anything. Most insurance companies won't insure a homebuilt for value

Michael. Here is what I am looking into. Spoke with a rep from RV Share a company that rents your camper. Explained to them that I built the trailer myself. They dont have a problem with that. The customer rents your camper from them and the customer pays the insurance fee. You get 75 percent of the rental fee. You set your own price for the rental and you also set the time it is available. So if I rent my camper to my brother for 25.00 a night they keep 5.00 and I get 20.00. My "Brother" pays them an additional 10.00 a day for insurance. In effect it cost 15.00 a day for the camper to leave the driveway. It is only insured during the rental. I dont know how many days your "Brother" intends to camp but it might be less expensive than paying a yearly rate for the camper and your vehicles which if I read correctly they are jacking up the price to cover all of them.

And if there is an major accident with a huge claim, the company investigators **may** well decide such an arrangement is too fishy to pay out.

This really is one area of life to keep 100% on the up n up.

Very interesting. Definitely something to look into. Still haven't found an affordable solution at this point

I thought you were all set!

You really think that's too high a price to pay?

Careful, if you don't lock it in they may change their minds!

Almost a grand a year? It's a lot if you don't have it!

I used the word Brother as an example but if I was lending out my camper to relatives and or friends I would want to be sure it is insured. I lent my brother in law a 2 month old Jaguar back in the day and he wrecked it. The insurance company paid knowing full well who he was.

Sorry perhaps I misunderstood.

I thought the idea of using the per-day rental insurance was instead of, rather than supplementing the usual standing owner's policy.

That's the only part that would maybe be seen as dodgy, using the per-day insurance when the owner is the user.

I wonder if Grundy would cover it. They used to advertise agreed value coverage on a bunch of the car and auction shows.

I saw a post in Sprinter forum, guy got a $75K agreed value policy on his DIY conversion.

He was happy it was only $2,700 p.a.

State Farm insured mine for an agreed value of $5000 with a $500 deductible for $116 a year. I took it to my agent and he took pictures inside and out. I told him I had about $5500 in it, but I would be happy with a $5000 policy. I got three options starting with no deductible, $250 deductible, and $500. I went with the $500 figuring I could pull a lot of stuff off it to make up the difference. If not, anything is better than nothing and it would give me the funds to start another build. Made me sleep good at night on our recent Alaska trip too!
Naw Bro, We ain't lost. We just ain't never been here before!
