Shelly and I just got back from a week tent camping in Colorado, and I'm proud to say we are responsible for three days of very heavy rain on the 416 Fire near Durango!

Well, circumstantially at least: 1. It always rains when I go camping, B. We arrived at Molas Lake on Wednesday, and the monsoon started Thursday afternoon. Anyway, I'll claim credit! :D

The monsoon weather followed the usual pattern for Colorado this time of year: Cold before the Sun comes up, rapidly warming with cloud free skies in the morning. The clouds started around mid-morning, and by mid-afternoon we were getting thunderstorms. Often they end around evening, but in this case they kept coming until after dark. Rather than try and cook in the rain, we ate our light meal in the evenings and, one time, went into Silverton for dinner. In the afternoon we napped in a dry tent while the rain and hail came down, and did a lot of reading.

We did watch one movie on the DVD player built into our car's radio, but seemed like cheating.

Yes, an old thread. It needs revived. RAIN on the roof is paradise. Rain is what books are for.
Just be ready to relax and enjoy! :D

I like Nessmuk’s books, old trail journals and just general wilderness living. I have several by brave souls in the Yukon and Alaska.

We camped this past weekend and it rained. Luckily the rain didn't come till after sundown. We still had to abandon the outside and head in. The next morning was nice and cold. Hiked 5+ miles. I honestly don't mind the rain. For me, it depends on how light or heavy the rain is. I am a dog walker. I used to have 2 dogs I cared for that loved the rain. They got excited. Since they hated the heat, the rainy walks were the best for them! LOL Then up at the cabin up on the mountain as a kid, it rained. We played in it. Also played in the streets when it rained in the city. It was great! My 2 morning walks don't mind misty walks, but anything beyond that, they give me a look. A sad look. Poor pups!

It just really depends on how rainy it is.

Camped a week in Yellowstone last year. It rained off and on every day. Cooked outside under the ez-up. Wasn't too bad.
Made me rethink some things though.
Then I camped in near blizzard conditions and wanted to cook dinner but couldn't , which led to major changes. Cause more blizzard camping is going to happen.
