old Ohio pop up camper title ? anyone got one ?

Postby rustytoolss » Tue Sep 04, 2018 3:13 pm

Anyone got an old "OHIO " pop up camper title (must be 1992 or older. I want to put historical plates on my TTT Foamie/ so I don't have to plate it each year.
I only go to 2 events each year at a cost of $37.50 each year ( for utility trailer plates).... Historical plates cost $50.00 and you only have to buy them once :D
I know I'm splitting hairs here...but it pee's me off to pay that much/ when I only go to 2 events a year :x

Sounds like it might be a legal alternative to your plan, but I'm no lawyer.

I've got an Ohio registration for my TTT as being a utility trailer. I used a pop up frame to build it. But I've seen vintage campers with Ohio historical tags. If I could get an old Ohio pop up title. Stamp the VIN numbers on my frame. I could get Ohio Historical plates, and save some money.

I don't see why not...I would think that a small (length) travel trailer title should be fine. But then again I do not know if the length is even on an Ohio camper Title ?? must be older than 1992 ( the older the better) :)

I know a couple of teardropers who run really old plates from the flea market and never had a problem. One person has the real plate on the other corner of the trailer and the other person just keeps the real plate packing in the camper and doesn't display the real plate at all and tours all over the USA, I guess it depends on how vintage your trailer looks

Not intending to de-rail this thread, but as a sidebar;
Iowa allows, on old cars, display of an "approved" year-of-manufacture plate. We must, however, pay a regular annual fee for current plates, and carry those plates in the vehicle at all times. There is no limitation on how we may use the vehicle. I don't know if this might apply to a vintage camper. (Further, on pre-'48 vehicles, we're allowed to display only a rear plate.)

Just some semi-related info.....Roger

When I sell a vintage trailer, I don't give them my registration (I don't their toll bill) but I don't want it looking empty there so I always buy a custom novelty plate that says what kind of trailer it is so it looks complete but before it sells, I have it on there when I take it to the wheigh station and to the actual sheriffs inspection (for the title) and for any welding work when needed, I've had police and state troopers right behind me and I was ready to pull over but they just kept on going.

I added a 2nd plate bracket to my tear. It isn't lit, but does give me options. Currently a Route 66 plate on it.
