Chesapeake CLC

Postby greenchicken » Wed Nov 14, 2018 1:22 pm

I started another post about designs that led to posting about this TD Kit.

I was exciting about building this from scratch to my own specifications but I can't deny the appeal of this kit.

Right now the main draw back is the cost. But as I prepare my materials list I am wondering if it really is that expensive.

Opinions? Is $2,200 significantly more then I would spend on all the material?

And...

Other then the trailer itself what else do I need to buy to complete this kit?

I am in a different country so our costs are not directly compatible but I did keep a materials list. It adds up pretty quickly and I used recycled materials where I could.http://cloud.tapatalk.com/s/5bed2c8dbd646/teardrop_costs%20%281%29.pdf

I know at least one build of the CLC was documented on this forum. Use the search bar and you will find it

I have about 4k in mine total with a Northern tool aluminum trailer. I bought the kit. The materials are first rate and having all the pieces precision cut is priceless. I did do my own interior. ImageImage

I'll betcha I'll spend close to $4500 on build #4. Maybe a bit more.

Costwise, my understanding is that a CLC will cost you about the same a conventional homebuilt teardrop, but the homebuilt 'drop will have more insulation, electrical features, space, windows, etc. So on a feature-per-feature basis, the CLC will certainly cost more. However, it looks friggin' awesome, and it does 90% of the design work for you.

Yes, the trailer is the NT 5x8. I hacked a bit off the back to get my camper to fit. The tongue box is NT also. The wheels came from etrailer. They are the same size as stock with radial tires. The NT tires wore out in just a few thousand miles. The radials are doing much better.
