Trailer Hitch Holes not there?

Postby greenchicken » Sat Dec 29, 2018 12:55 pm

Hi,

Finishing the trailer assembly and either I am not understanding or something is wrong with my part.... I assume it is the latter.

Looks this picture. The hitch has to holes on top that had bolt already installed connected to the chain.

But there are no matching holes.

It looks like the holes are on the side?

I have seen this before, they assume the long bolts all the way through Will be strong enough, kinda like pins.

Probably a generic ball coupler that has holes in the top and side predrilled. Did the give you bolts for the side holes?

Through the side is recommended and I believe "legal". Through the top is not recommended, I'm not sure if it's legal.
Last couplers I've bought do not have those 2 holes. I've seen them in the past, a tack well has been used to hold them onto tongue. I assumed, holding it as tongue was drilled.

interestingly there are MANY trailer tongues(tilting boat trailers) that are only held w/ one 5/8" horizontal bolt

the average 2" receiver hitch is only held in place by one 5/8" pin

the smaller square receivers use a 1/2" pin

your hitch assembly includes two horizontal bolts which will be more than adequate
