Water tank size???

Postby Patrick Star » Fri Feb 01, 2019 1:20 pm

Ok, my camper is coming along nicely but do not know about what size of water tank to buy, or where to mount it

What are the popular freshwater tank sizes?Image

I have a 30. I thought it was overkill until I dry camped a few times. I also have a flush toilet though

Have you looked at composting toilets? No water used, less weight and no black tank to empty.

A lot of people who build teardrops use something like this, and just build a space to hold it rather than installing it. You can use multiples to give you 5, 10 or 15 gallon capacity. You can modify a cap by putting a hose through it and hooking it to a pump so you don't have to pull the container out to pour water.

It depends on how long your trips are going to be and of course how many in your party. Plan on a minimum of one gallon per person per day.

We can get by nicely with this Reliance seven-gallon jug for three nights. Me, the missus and two pooches.

Ours is 10 gallons with a 6 gallon water heater. One thing to remember you need a similar size gray water tank. The head of our bed is in the rear and the tank is inside. Here you see the water heater heater.

We have a five gallon water tank. It lasts the two of us about two days. I'll be adding in a second next week. I also have a pretty nice, expensive filter in there, the brand name of which doesn't come to mind at the moment, but we're able to just pull water right from a lake or a river when we need to. It's been pretty convenient at times.

You people build some nice trailers!!
Atomic77, I got the 33 gal to one up you, no.... it was 1 dollar more so I got it.

Those Reliance tanks are nice. I had 2, but was getting the VIN ran on an '85 ATC70 I bought and forgot to put tail gate up. So it got lost. 2 of them would do us a night.... me and my daughter. She's a water hog, lol

My best friend is building a camper too and is going the small tank route I believe, and running a couple/few of them.Image

Another quick question.....

What flow rate of tankless water heater would be recommend?

I have no idea. I've seen Atomic77's water heater, and it looks nice, unsure of the flow though.

I was looking at the 3.6 or whatever. But maybe the 2.6 would be better. The water heater will just feed the shower and would like to get about 6 showers out of it.

The water tank I bought went on sale 3 days after I bought it, which is a bummmer, since the 46 gallon is now 6 bucks more than what I paid for my 33. Oh well, I'm going the be the primary camper and will have a child with me about half the time I camp on the beach

The AquaKing is rated at 2.0 GPM. I'll be honest and say I wasn't sure if that would work but honestly I have zero complaints. I paired it with a Surflow pump and it works great on city pressure or the 12v pump, either one. It's great for washing dishes or showering. It will light within about one second of turning on the water and it's hot instantly. My longest run is about 18' and on a cold day it takes about 10 seconds to run out hot. Not too shabby. Your hot water is only limited by your water and propane supply. Although, it does have a 20 minute time out built in for safety, which I have never activated. I have used it for one whole season and it's been flawless.
