QuiteLite Tail Feather tiny trailer

Postby JuneBug » Sat Feb 09, 2019 3:50 pm

The Tail Feather concept has been around for years and years, but the original owners couldn't quite get it off the ground and three or four years ago the owner posted the business for sale.

I came back across it today in the local newspaper as Quite Lite. The concept is a small standy trailer comprised of various molded plastic panels that can be assembled (and dis-assembled for storage) with roof panels. The foam insulated panels are assembled and mounted on a buyer-provided trailer.

The new business, which anticipates shipping panels this May, offers the side and roof panels, and a door panel for a 5' x 8' base model for $6,000. They claim that the roof/sides/door panel package weighs less than 400 pounds. There is the option to make a slightly longer trailer with the addition of a side panel.

Anyway, you can check it out here: QuiteLite Tail Feather

I'm intrigued by the concept, but they're still describe themselves as pre-production. The company is in Longmont, CO.

They also offer a small 10 x 10 cabin assembled from molded panels.

True, but could be pulled by a few 4 cylinder cars and all 6 cylinder cars and trucks. The option to dissemble to store will be appealing for those with limited space. The main "selling point" is definitely the relatively low price. They also don't mention how much the roof panels weigh or if they are insulated.

For example, this bitty fiberglass standy has a base price of $15,400.GoBe lightweight travel trailer. I'd buy a GoBe in a heartbeat if I had that much discretionary cash lying around, but I don't. GoBe may have bought the molds from WeisCraft.

375 pounds seem like a good weight for a small car to tow. I guess it depends on which trailer one is using with it?

Perhaps it is just the shell and would increase with what one puts into it?

I like how modular it is.

Apparently the QuiteLite people are in a "redesign" phase with no set production/release date.

They are missing out on sales for summer camping season, so they better get after it! Originally they were going to have the panels available for purchase in May.

Don't want to read through their entire web site, but they might be redesigning the roof, which does look awkward.

Not completely obvious what market QuiteLite/Tail Feather is shooting at.

Their one example looks like a hunting lodge/stand/camp. Deployed to be used for a short period. Setup in short period after transport to site.

No real indication on how beds/chairs/tables or storage or power or water or heating/cooling will be handled. Which make a TD type design problematic. Definitely not glamping.

There are prefab cabins out there. About $12,000, but 18' x 32'. Considerably more construction time and effort eg many days/weeks for a crew of 2 or more. Considerably more amenities eg sinks, cabinets, loft.

There are modular cabins like modular homes.

There are tents or tent assemblies that could provide similar space. And with less volume. Tents could cover the idea of a temporary/semi-permanent camping area. Setup time would be comparable.

Yes, it seems they need to get a good marketing consultant to help out with the concept if they want to be successful.
