Dogs in a Hiker

Postby heykevo » Tue Mar 12, 2019 6:14 am

We're looking into getting a trailer at some point in the future, but we have two blue heelers that will be joining us on all of our excursions. They are crate trained and don't sleep in the bed with us and we'd like to mimic that in our trailer if possible. I see that Hiker has some rear "bunk bed" cabinets that are a good size for our pups. My idea is to slap on a couple gate like contraptions and give them some bedding. Has anyone seen anything like this done before? The pups would only be in the bunks for sleeping and would never be left there alone or anything.

If not, what's your solution for bringing two medium sized dogs (35lb and 55lb) with you?

Looks like the bunks are 23" deep by whatever width your trailer will be, more or less. If the dogs can be comfortable in that space, I don't see any reason it would not work.

Our English bulldog sleeps in the back seat of the jeep and he has to have a blanket over him to fall asleep.

Tony, I have similar pictures of watching the solar eclipse with our dog in Alliance NE and yes he was wearing his own pair of eclipse glasses! LOL!

Those Look Perfect

Check out my build journal (Dusty Mark's 5 x 10 Build) to see the dog kennel we built into the bulkhead. We have a 60-pound British lab and he's comfy in his 3' long, 2' wide, 2' high kennel area for hours at a time. We've got air conditioning and leave him behind quite often. If the 110-volt power were to fail we've got the 12-volt Maxfan running as back up. It's a great way to keep your dogs out of your bed and also be able to do something without them occasionally.
