Spring Cleaning

Postby bdosborn » Sun Mar 24, 2019 3:05 pm

I think I'm done with my spring cleaning of the trailer. Things I've done so far:

Cleaned out all the old food. I found stuff that was 3 or 4 years old tucked away and forgotten.
Vacuumed out all the storage areas and lined them with exercise mat.
Got new organizing trays and re-organized all our stuff in the cabinets.
Got rid of stuff we didn't use last year.
Added a new table and a lantern tree.
Added a Coleman 222a Lantern and a 400 stove for cooking outside. I miss the teardrop's galley sometimes.
    Filled the propane tank.
    Exercised the generator.
    Bought new sheets and blankets.
    Cleaned the fridge.
Washed all the dishes in the dishwasher.

What did I forget?

Good idea, I've got a rebuild kit in the garage, I'll check and see if I have grease....

Check your lug nuts and tire pressure.

I inspect the trailer inside and out.
Lube the bearings - easy to do with the Dexter EZ Lube. I think I am going to switch to Mobil 1 Red Synthetic lube,

Check the tires and pressure

Wipe down and lube (silicone spray)} the camp chairs and tables. Lots of lube is good idea in general.

Go through the inventory that I carry and get rid of more dead weight then replace it with more stuff I don't need.
I fire up the stove and test the water pump.

I test the battery under load with and Harbor Freight battery tester.https://www.harborfreight.com/100-amp-612v-battery-load-tester-61747.html I am also experimenting with an impedance tester which is supposed to show battery health by measuring internal resistance of the battery. I'm still learning with that thing.

I usually desulphate the battery too. There is lots of opinion on how to do that. Some feel just load testing the battery does it. My charger has that feature built in. It uses some sort of high frequency pulsing to do it. I hope to test the internal resistance before and after to tell if any of this crap works. The most likely outcome will be more confusion.

If nothing else sulphation does give me something to derail the arguing about the size of Nitrogen molecules in tires when camping with other RV's

For me the battery charger desulphation seems to work best. Meaning I get a better charge after desulphation. Its more than the placebo effect. More later.

Wash and wax the trailer.

Vacuum out all the exoskeletons of things that crawled into the trailer to die.

I did install an air intake filter (on the combustion intake) for the Propex heater. I am hoping this will keep an active hive from forming in the heater.

Cos:

I tried that process on an ATV battery that wasn't holding a charge with my NOCO Genius charger and it now holds a charge. What's up with that???

Thanks for sticking this on Bruce's list. I'll hit our teardrop battery with this treatment before our pending SW trip next week. Good idea! That battery is getting old...
