A/C Unit

We put in a window a/c unit. Is it ok to plug it into a power strip or should we use an extension cord and plug it directly into the electric plug provided at the camp site? I know the power strip is not safe for a heater, but thought I'd ask about the a/c.

A 5,000 Btu AC uses about 450W with a higher inrush current which surges up to 1500W when it starts, I would not use a power strip.
