Kampmaster Help Please

I did not get a title when I bought my Kampmaster many years ago. The frame was modified by someone in the past and they welded through most of the serial number. I can sort of make out 3 of the numbers. Can anyone confirm the original Kampmaster serial number scheme? I believe the ones built in California started with the letters KM followed by a 5 digit number, the last two digits being the year code. Can anyone confirm this for me?

I did get the original California license plate. IF I can confirm the number scheme that was used I may be able to work backwards from what the license plate tells me and get close enough to decipher what is obliterated.
