Empty Holding Tanks At Home - Flojet.

I have used the FloJet for the first time today. Anyone used one? What was your experience? I created a short video review.

Just remember folks...
With this device, you're cross-connecting your sewer system and drinking water, unless you use an isolated source for the fresh water. :NC

We don't poop or put paper products in the toilet.. I have no need for something like this. Since we have no solids (of any kind) in our waste water, it's non-toxic and safe to dispose of most anywhere.

To each their own I guess.

How does a 75 ft hose connected to a hose bib on the house cross connect/contaminate? That's a stretch? Just pushing water down the hose to flush Flojet. If I am to be worried about contamination from that.. may as well never use the hose. A bit of over concern I'd say.

Also, if you have the toilet and etc. in the trailer and don't use it for intended purpose, I'd agree.. no need to use the FloJet.

It is..... however, I find using public restrooms generally gross and unsanitary. Likewise, pooping in a bucket of sawdust or cat litter or etc.. almost as bad and still dealing with disposal. Worse yet is sitting or even standing over a vault toilet or outhouse with years worth of crap and stench steaming up at you. I like having my own bathroom as at home, so dumping the tanks is a necessary evil and when done right, not so bad.

I really like when on the road and not having to use gross rest stop toilets or gas stations. Almost a non negotiable for the wife.

The cross-connection is achieved as soon as you hook your water supply up to the pump. No contamination is necessary for a cross-connection to exist. All you need for the most basic of cross-connections to occur, is to have your garden hose hooked up to the house and drop the other end into a puddle.

The contamination is a secondary factor. In this case, that should never occur unless something goes wrong. But if something does go wrong, you've got contaminated drinking water.

Technically, this device would be illegal to use in any place where IPC (International Plumbing Code) or UPC (Uniform Plumbing Code) is the basis for state or local building code. Cross-connections are bad - especially when involving pumps with no secondary back-flow protection in place.

Is it going to be fine for the majority of people? Sure.
But it's still a cross-connection - and a cross-connection involving a pump. Users need to keep that in mind.

Yes.. backflow valves are present and code where I live. The City Water input is on the non pressurized side of the device also. In any case.. by definition okay.. but the reality is no risk.

Good information for folks to know in any case. Thanks.

from an earlier threadhttp://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=70571&hilit=flo+jet
working on it wrote: We recently had to live in our 20-ft travel trailer, in the rear driveway/parking area, for three months last fall. Our house needed replacing, so we lived there with our numerous dogs & 2 pet birds. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=69239&hilit=neglected We used two Rhino flex hoses (20+ feet) to disperse our graywater onto our backyard, but our blackwater disposal presented a problem.

We have two septic tanks on our property, but the nearest access port (tank lid) is 48.5' away from the wastewater valve assembly, and uphill, so we couldn't use gravity to empty the BW tank. So, I bought a Flo-jet RV waste pump w/macerator, and a large diameter 50' hose. I also installed a clear extension onto the valve assembly, so I could observe the flow, and a city-water hose (75', from my neighbor's house, on a separate fitting than to the trailer itself) to flush the tank/macerator clean.

The system worked flawlessly, and I used it every 9-10 days. Sure beat having to use a rolling disposal tank, IMHO. I used my HHR's battery as the 12vdc source, since it was parked next to the trailer, and never had any problem at all, until I buried the septic tanks again, after the plumbing of the new house was done, and I had to empty the BW tank a last time before winterizing it (a hard-cold front was coming that night). My new septic-tank-access port was 7 feet further away, so I bought a cheap, 5/8" diameter 10' hose from Lowe's, to span the distance. That hose kinked up, built up pressure, then exploded, scattering waste all over the yard. Fortunately, none on me, or the house, but only over a part of the dog yard, before I could fix it. Using a better hose, I successfully emptied the tank, sanitized equipment and the access port, and then winterized the trailer. Nature (and strong rains) sanitized the yard, that week.

* I used a hose-splitter connected at the spigot, to separate the flush hoses from the drinking water source hoses, and another cut-off in between the two flush hoses (both turned off after flushing). I hoped to avoid any possible backflow in that manner. The flush hose end that connected to the Flo Jet was rinsed in bleach water, as was the Flo Jet itself, after each use, and both were removed from the trailer outlet, so the usually "always open" grey water pipe could be utilized (the trailer was used for three full months, with the grey water draining into the former "goat pen" portion of our backyard. My wife and I never got ill, so I presume we avoided cross-contamination successfully.
