Beach buggy/cart

Postby RJ Howell » Thu Sep 03, 2020 3:55 pm

Looks like my next build is a beach buggy or cart of sorts! I can't find what I what for under $200.. ya, kidding me!

Have the tube steel and can source pneumatic tires locally on the cheap. I'm thinking two wheeled for ease on sand or the boardwalk. Not carrying all that, but capacity that could. Just a simple beach box and a way to tie on a few items, like chairs.

If you so push me... as I'm pondering... DC powered wheels?? Could it be so? Hmm..

Am so looking for another build project... ;)

If this is to be a trailer to pull behind a car or pickup, an electric wheel is tough option. If it is something you can haul to the beach and unload, I would consider using 26" fat tire bicycle wheels. But then the budget of $200 is not enough.

Funny, I have most everything I need, so $200 is way too much.. LOL Pull cart/buggy, shall we say hand towed trailer. Like the idea of the bike tires mainly de to I have a 24" kids mountain bike stored away and it has gears.. hmm..

[US$87.11 23% OFF]24V 250W Electric Bike Conversion Scooter Motor Controller Kit Fit For 20-28inch Ordinary Bike Other Vehicle Parts & Accessories from Automobiles & Motorcycles on banggood
https://banggood.app.link/HQpNw0Apv9

Above is a link to an e-bike kit that uses a separate gear motor to drive the wheel. Combine that with your bike parts and all you need is the cart itself.

Was out surf casting yesterday and really wished Had already built the cart! Getting tooled for the backpack, especially when the wife comes along.. I do like the idea's on powering up!

Saw several folks out there with carts of all sorts. Mostly 4 wheel types and small wheels and they looked stuck where they sat..
Ya, confirmed, 2 wheeled and bigger tires. May just build this today!

* I watch a lot of phone tests and tear-downs (as well as all sorts of mechanical and electric/electronic trouble-shooting channels on YouTube). Among my favorite channels is JerryRigEverything, where he also had a series of videos about building an off-road four-wheel wheelchair for his girlfriend https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... 0zawk1VnM9 . Here is another link to his merchandising of that design, pre-built, for $4750 https://notawheelchair.com/

Started into the pipe bender build to make the cart and got distracted by the Sensor for my truck (The Overlander) showing up. Changed gears and got the sensor replaced, 3hrs and a lot of soldering later (corroded wires..), the truck-camper is back!

I'll head out to the shop again today and see if I can get 'er done today!

folding golf cart undercarriage

golf carts have WIDE light weight extremely strong solid wheels

many of them fold up into nuthing consuming no/very little valuable space

many are made out of aluminium tubing

if you're making a basket style one make the tongue jack out of the adjustable part of an aluminium crutch w/ the punch button that works up n down in a series of holes in the outer piece

Well, pipe bender needs a die to bend properly (another task), yet realized how heavy this was headed.. I didn't even like the weight of the EMT I have around.. What shall I do??

I've made so much stuff out of my PVC pipes, what the hey.. Why not? :)

Late start, several distractions and I'm only this far..
Image

I realized a bit too late that my axle mount was upside down.. I want to add a couple cross pieces so still okay to easily flip them. The axle mount I sleeved a section of 3/4" sch40 inside the the 1" shed 40 making the axle mount 3 layers thick, that should work..
With the axle flipped and the extra cross pieces, that should handle the cooler, chairs, sun shield and rods/tackle. Hopefully..

The handle is glued at the top and will place pins at the bottom so the handle is removable for transport. The uprights I see as 4 more 3 ways at the top making a cage/rim of sorts and not glueing into the base frame. Again removable for transport. Gears on the tire rim need to go on the inside if I wish to power this in anyway.

I'm heading out fishing tomorrow and the cart is not ready.. bumma.. Any who, that's where I'm at!

Why not just find a used bicycle trailer for kids. We found ours cheap.

Brought it out on the trial run and had a few items that needed attention!

Well one was what I thought, a bit too wide! Running over the boardwalk it took up most the available space... I was that jerk..

My pins to hold the handle were okay, but just not enough, improvement required!

A bit of re-work and some added supports and I'm getting close to what I want! :)

I set everything with PVC glue, but haven't mentioned that I do rivet all the joints. The uprights you see are just a thought of how I may add an upper rail (to hold a DC motor..).

Adding intermediate structual pieces helped a lot! Dah... Still not happy with the handle situation..

Need the handle to be removable, yet if I drill, I weaken.. hmm. I'm on using the bungees to hold the handle as it also holds cargo.. I can work with this.

I just bought a really cool sun/wind screen on seasonal discount.. Whoa! Packs like an umbrella. Pic's when it gets here!

This is the smallest, cheapest, trailer I've built! Hope you're enjoying the build!

Fish report to Date: Zoning in on tides and locations. 2 schoolie's caught and many worms drowned in the effort... This week I hope for much better results..
 Zoning in!!
