Preventing Water Freeze Test Results

Postby Cosmo » Mon Feb 15, 2021 9:55 am

Greetings from Deep Winter.
I tested some of the ideas discussed here for preventing water freezing.
I have a success that works long term (for me in conditions I encounter).
Thanks for the help finding a solution

Happy Camping

This idea would only work if you have snow, but I wonder if burying your water in a few inches would insulate it better than a cooler?

I say this because we had about 6 inches Fall Saturday night, and then the temperatures turned to single digits. When I finally shoveled out Monday (we're retired and have no place we need to be badly enough to rush that job!), I found the bottom of the driveway was still slushy mud. Granted, we'd had 50 degree days last week, and so the ground was still warm.

Ground temps will stay warm for a while, ice will generally stay just above freezing temps if you go deep enough. I don’t deal with snow much, but I’d rather bring a cooler and boil some water vs digging around in the snow every time I wanted some water. But in a pinch, it “should” keep the water just above freezing temp.
