And that's why I retired to the Southwest!

I'll ask ya about that in July. Tonight, we're supposed to get 2-5" of snow with gusts to 40. This is nuts.

I went camping last weekend. Weather was great until 3am. The winds hit the trailer hard, had to hookup back to the truck for stability.
Didn't get any sleep after that cause the window was howling.
I'll take lower temps over that wind any day.
On a positive note. The stack from the wood stove held up great.

It occurred to me I added 15W battery heaters to the bottom of each cell when I built the system, I've just never used them. They are controlled via a relay in the Victron Cerbo GX to come on when the battery gets down to 34F and turn off when it's back up to 37F.

I decided it was time to try them out. I ran them last night and they came on from 2am to 4am, drew 60W and the low last night was 25F. This morning I covered the batteries with an old moving blanket and we'll see how it works with the cold tonight! :worship:

Indeed it's going to be cold. 6°f at our primary home, I've done what I can around the house. Camper is in the garage. Our vacation home will see -7°f and a 94% chance of snow. It's winterized well although we might lose some containers in the bathroom (lotion, ointments and what not). My biggest concern up there is the water well. It's in an insulated cement pill box but no heat. I'm thinking I should wire up a thermostat controlled heat lamp.

Over a 4 day period, we went from a high of -8 F to 47 F.
The two feet of accumulated snow in my yard is gone, and the 4" of solid ice on the road is gone.

Look at this weather being all springy and cute like it didn't just try and kill us last week.

This summer is when I finally closed the envelope on the tiny house. I put R32 in the ceiling of the caboose. Already had R 25 walls and floor. I was very proud of the performance of my little Mr. Heater propane wall heater. We just went thru 3 days of sub zero with 35 to 50 MPH sustained winds. The wind chill numbers were up and down side of Minus 40 for 3 full days. I left Mr. Heater on the low #1 setting while gone and popped it up to #3 when home. (It goes to 7 or 8.) I am guessing I have used about $200.00 worth of propane so far this heating season. Tank is never fully filled by my provider and is now down from 80% to 55% . I may have to see them in early February but really trying to make it thru. I really should take Sheila's idea of candles as a nice little auxiliary heat source. During the day if the sun is out I can feel the solar gain thru the garden window that is oriented due south. I can almost work on my tan. Hope you all stayed warm during our arctic blast !

No kidding. We drove from Helena to Salmon two days ago, and it rained like hell. Crazy weather. Fortunately, the highways were bare.
