Aqua Tainer on it’s side in galley - bad idea?

Postby WAteardrop7 » Sat Sep 02, 2023 3:34 pm

In the planning stages of my teardrop build and this site has been a wealth of info!

I’d like a dedicated space for water in the galley, and an Aqua Tainer on its side fits well in my design. My concern is potential for 4-7 gallons leaking out the cap or spigot. This trailer will go on fire roads so need to consider washboards, potholes, etc bouncing contents around. Most people leave the container in an upright position during transit but the height is too much in that orientation.

My current idea is to have it on a locking slide so I can just pull out, dispense water, then slide back in.

What do y’all think — am I asking for a water leak?

I've been running a seven-gallon Reliance jug for about fifteen years on its side. We used to put a Ziplock bag around the tap with a folded paper towel to contain any drips. It worked okay and perhaps some of that is the galley floor is sealed with epoxy.

But someone on here figured out that a hose bib works fine in these and is dead-leak-proof. You just gotta make sure the cap is scrunched down. When you install one, use plumber's putty, not Teflon tape.

There's still an issue of the upper cap so we keep the level below it.

Thanks for the real-life experience, Tony! I’ll update the spigot per your directions and plan out the space to fit the 7 gallon Aqua Tainer. I may epoxy the galley floor as general waterproofing as well.

I have one just like it for 14 years. Only problem is when I have left off the air vent cap. I have it in a tray and the tray is epoxied. 5539355392

I often stow three water bricks next to the propane tank. I usually pull one out to put the dispenser cap on it.

Holy cow, Rose is a teenager now! Done? Surely you jest. A teardrop is never "done".
