You can use a plastic rain gutter, a battery (12v I think) and rit dye. I have heard of it done on lots ov Automotive parts. There is a process before the actual anodizing that "opens up" the metal to accept the coloration. I'll see if I can dig the link up.

Hi,

Speaking of hatch hinges. I’ve been considering salvaging a pair of automobile trunk hinges. They are spring loaded and bolt simply to the trunk. Depending on how they are attached to the vehicle you may be able to simply unbolt a pair and bolt them into the structure of the tear. While you’re at it why not attach a strip of aluminum or angle all around the inner hatch cut out and use a length of automotive rubber trunk seal around the perimeter. This would make a very clean waterproof installation and all the parts are available at your local junkyard.

By the way, I just purchased an old AC/DC TIG welder capable of 5-300 amp output. Those anodize at home sites have me thinking about adding a little color to my projects. Has anyone had any measure of success with this process?

Just thinking out loud, Mark

I found this thread interesting and did some searching myself, this is what I came up with for anodizing information.

Hope you find this helpful.

I've seen automobile hinges used before,This is the hatch on Marty Boehme's teardrop.

Thanks for the info. I'll follow up with this as time permits.

The auto trunk hinge in the photo is exactly the set up I was suggesting. I will seriously consider this type of hinge on any type Teardrop I might build.

Thanks, Mark
